I'll never understand the point of adding "nobody" on memes. It's just completely unnecessary for the joke.

[-] RGB3x3@lemmy.world 20 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

It's never used right. "Nobody" is supposed to mean someone does something unprompted and that no one asked for.

But most of the time, it's just tacked on the meme for no reason. Which...

The stupid part is that it doesn’t even make sense, it should be Everybody: or Nobody: please do x

Or less awkwardly: “Please do x” -Nobody “I did x” -[whoever is relevant here]

I always thought it was supposed to mean something like nobody said or did anything, and then _______ happened. Like the empty space after nobody was supposed to represent silence or nothingness. But even that doesn't make sense. I'm just overanalyzing a stupid meme.

From the “things nobody asked for department”:

Definitely has run its course

For me it's the setup of "nobody asked for this, nobody was wanting it or pushing for it but they did it anyway".

This one is... Not a good application of it.

Edit: one of my favorites.

Nobody:

Me: I'm sorry

As someone with a lot of anxiety and needless guilt this simple one is hilarious to me.

The correct format would be:

"Beards in Clone Wars be like..."

This format often gets conflated with the "Nobody" format. Nobody is suppose to be a ridiculous response to a question no one is asking. For example:

"Nobody: How do people in the One Piece universe communicate with each other?

Oda: Giant snails with receivers on their backs!

collage of den den mushi pictures"

[-] itsnicodegallo@lemm.ee 5 points 8 months ago

It's like the setup equivalent to including "I laughed so hard at this" at the end of a screenshot.

[-] casmael@lemm.ee 1 points 8 months ago

Yeah it’s kind of like a preamble like ‘I say I say’ or ‘I was on the way to the forum when’

[-] FartsWithAnAccent@fedia.io 3 points 8 months ago

Nobody is the worst meme format

[-] Bondrewd@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago

It means that literally nobody fucking wanted or asked for this, yet this quirky useless stuff exists.

Our galactic citizens have requested more specific rules, so here are a few.

The general idea is, if you're looking here for rules, you're probably someone who doesn't need to have them spelled out. You're fine. But anyway:

  1. This is a community for Star Wars memes. This means typically screenshots of Star Wars media with some text or context that's meant to be funny and/or thoughtful. All SW media is welcome: movies, games, comic books, fanart... Other kinds of content, like video links or meta memes (about this community, or Lemmy), are fine as well, just keep it on topic.

  2. We are all friends here, and love (sometimes love to hate) Star Wars. Be nice to each other.

  3. As fans of fictional media, we can be passionate. If you very strongly disagree with something or someone, take a deep breath before reacting. Anger leads to the dark side!

  4. Everything in Star Wars has happened a long time ago, in a galaxy far away, and it's a rich universe of millions of words and millions of years of history. So current Earthly matters really shouldn't concern us here. In other words, leave politics, philosophies and convictions behind the door. This applies even if it's about something related to Star Wars.

  5. Original content is preferred. Reposts are fine, just please limit to a maximum of 3 per day, per citizen. It is recommended, but not required, to mark original memes as (OC) and reposts as (repost).

  6. Local mods are the Jedi council. They may take actions that are necessary to maintain peace and stability of the Republic, even beyond the rules outlined here. Follow their guidance.

  7. Regular rules of the Lemmy.world instance apply.
