I think they just mean the old political elites and replace them with themselves.

They probably mean the entire political system.

Ideally they'd mean capitalism, and establish a socialist state like their neighbouring Cuba. But I'm not getting my hopes up just yet.

That's my point, they have no system it seems. So nothing to overthrow.

And since this guy got his nickname for burning people alive, I kind of expect he's more of a Pol Pot kind of socialist.

Which is why I'm not getting my hopes up yet. There's still time for the people of Haiti to organize, but this isn't quite it.
