wow Anwar got balls man, if there's one single western invention that one should be afraid of it's StarLink. No censorship kan? or am i missing sth?
"no censorship" is a muskian PR claim, let me just respond briefly. There's other ways you can delimit access while keeping the bands open for other signals, and Musk has no qualms about acceding to government demands (unlike TikTok which only listens to China).
actually, how will they be able to compel Musk to comply with government demands without physically confiscating the starlink device? it's beamed from a satellite no? without going through a traditional Malaysian-based ISP?
Iirc it's to do with his own proprietary tech which made it hard to jury rig third party solutions. There's also hard IP bans the way our ISP do it. Just because starlink won't have Malaysia ownership doesn't mean it won't happen this way (twitter isn't owned by Vietnam or Cambodia either and he fully agrees to their occasional demands to take down activist tweets). I can try to recall some old articles, but a lot of discussion during the last Iranian street protests explored the possibility and concluded with maybe-yes-but-probably not. And that's before he fully had to own twitter too. (He's already agreed not to provide starlink in china)
Ohh, Elon Musk, the free speech absolutist, will totally bend over when the policy favor them, in this case the complete monopoly of the rural market paid by government lol.
Yea fair enough underestimated corporate greed lol…
