You're splurging every time you buy food that isn't the cheapest source of the bare necessary amount of calories.
Imagine buying flour instead of growing your own wheat and vegetables. So wasteful.
Good thing my local grocery store stopped stocking their cheapest pasta and replaced it with a bunch of new brands in fancier looking packaging.

I’m happy to report that my 1 lb (454g) bag of lentils has only increased by 6% or $0.07 in the last 4 years
