MODERATORS
Get a herding dog. They accept you and they might like you, but they are autonomous and decide for themselves what's to do. And they don't want to be inside anyways, so all you need is a big garden. Maybe some sheep.
Get a sled dog. All of the above advantages plus they like to pull heavy loads for you.
Or, you know, just get the cat that you want...
