Look unless you're going to pay for an entire proper length parental leave for all of your employees this shit would be infuriating.
When we had our first we both took off 12 weeks and we had to save up PTO for the entire year, along with banking the max allowed the previous year to avoid complete financial collapse. Being told that I wasn't going to be allowed to come in for a week around Memorial Day and had to use my own PTO to get paid would have had my blood boiling. Telling me I had to use 25% of my hours every quarter also would have been disastrous.
Just fire managers who abuse employees for taking days off, god damn.
in amerikkka you're allowed to give your emplyees 11 days vacation per fucking year?? land of the free lmao
In fact there is no federal minimum number of paid days off
jesus fucking christ
what is the point of a federal government if not to set regulations and minimums like that (obviously the purpose of the US federal governemnt is to serve the bourgeoisie, but goddamn how does it get away with being so much more mask off than all the other bourgeois states)
Knowing this shit about America's government, State and Revolution made sense straight away the first time I read it, because plainly, America's government doesn't do anything except resolve class contradictions. It doesn't regulate, it doesn't guarantee any sort of minimum basis for human life, it only serves the bourgeoisie, it doesn't even attempt to hold up any sort of facade to the contrary.
I just finally got upgraded from 10 days of PRO per year to 15 days, literally this month.
oh, and lest you operate under incorrect assumptions, many (most?) US employers combine vacation and sick time into PTO time. so that's 15 days per year of vacation time and sick time, combined, so if you take a two-week vacation you better hope you don't catch the flu or COVID or anything else that'll knock you out for more than a week – or for more than a week minus any other miscellaneous time you need off, like, say, going to the doctor, taking your pet to the vet in an emergency, going to your grandma's funeral...
In the land of the free, the country’s “birthday”, July 4th, is a national holiday, but private companies get to choose whether you get the day off. This goes for about every other federal holiday. In Asian countries that celebrate lunar new year, workers usually get anywhere from an entire week to an entire month off because they actually value the holidays
Lmao... lol 11 days vacation is considered good
that's probably above average, and certainly above the median lol
My employer gives entry level workers 10 to start with, you get 15 after working there for 5 years (it's a high attrition industry).
Fucking hell these comments are depressing. Even in it's 28 days a year legal minimum (including 8-9 public holidays). Plus sick leave. And that is absolutely nowhere near enough.
I'm having to hard-core budget my pto rn so I can actually see my mom, dad, and then make it to my sister's wedding. It's going to leave me with exactly 0 hours of pto and no odds of taking a vacation just for myself for months
I had a job that offered 5 extra days of PTO a year to anyone who reached the holidays with less than 5 days of PTO remaining for the year.
The kicker?
They had a mandatory shutdown during the holidays that, for some inscrutable tax reason (as I understood it), they broke up into chunks of company holidays and mandatory PTO days, meaning your reward for using your PTO was to be given enough PTO days to cover the days they were forcing you to take without your consent. They framed this as a benefit.
