Throughout the Group of 7 summit meeting in Puglia, China has been the lurking presence: as the savior of “Russia’s war machine,” in the words of the summit’s final communiqué; as an intensifying threat in the South China Sea; and as a wayward economic actor, dumping electric cars in Western markets and threatening to withhold critical minerals needed by high-tech industries

I am so sick of crackers lmfao. I wonder if it's ever gone through these politicos' heads that:

  1. their own actions (deliberately couping Poroshenko specifically to install a useful idiot that Washington could prod into a conflict with Russia; all in service of NATO encirclement of Russia) prompted alliance between Russia and China;

  2. if Ansarallah could totally anti the US Navy, that their washing by China is not only inevitable AND predictable, but will be a hilarious spectacle for the Global South to watch (and potentially, even go as far as to weaken the stance of the blockade of Cuba);

  3. the average used car (that actually runs, we're not counting Craigslist or lot lemons) is going to run you anywhere from 10 to 20k right now, so ain't NOBODY thinking about NEW cars; if China actually WAS allowed to "dump electric cars in Western markets" (which is a lie, China's EV manufacturers are currently under Amerikan sanction), the average Amerikan who is more focused on their paycheck not keeping up with the constantly ascending cost of living than this bullshit Red Scare would regard China as a savior for the market.

But y'know, let's just keep playing Cold War 2. Surely this isn't going to be the action that kicks off Amerika's Century of Humiliation.

China is a threat in the south China sea

"These people chilling in their own homes are a threat to us on the other side of the planet"

Fucking cop country, pathetic.

The Chinese car thing is 'funny' in a glib way to me.

Neolibs can't admit that unionized auto-manufacturing is one of the few well-paying factory jobs that still exist and need some sort of protectionism to still exist, because protectionism is bad.

Chinese phone companies collaborating with car companies to make a product that has a UI people like is actually because the Chinese are nefarious.

If there was a Chinese company 1/5th as evil as Nestle we'd never hear the end of it. American car companies have been purposely evil in the past in not fixing stuff to be recalled because the loss of life was less expensive than fixing stuff.

I'm not really hyped on these Chinese cars because of the union jobs that would be lost, and I'm automatically distrustful of cars that are more iPad than car (I don't think I'd like Tesla's even if they didn't kill people because repairability is important).

Even taking the union jobs factor into account, (were I medically able to drive) I'd still go for the most reliable model on the market that isn't going to cost a foreclosure on my house; and ain't no Amerikan or allied import manufacturer currently filling that gap. If my (hypothetical, mind) ability to navigate my city, drive cross-country when necessary, or even so much as have a whip to get to the nearest grocery came down to an Amerikan manufacturer that still had union jobs, or a Chinese manufacturer that all I know is a reputation for quality and affordability, I'm taking the latter every time.

These union boys need to be striking again to drag the price of any vehicles currently roadworthy back into affordability before that metric changes.
