Posts must be:

- ...their original headlines, that...
- ...would make people who see the headline think, “That has got to be a story from The Onion, America’s Finest News Source.”
Comments must abide by the server rules for Lemmy.world and generally abstain from trollish, bigoted, or otherwise disruptive behavior that makes this community less fun for everyone.

What does this mean?
86 is shorthand for "removed from the menu" or similar.
I've always heard and used it in the context of removing a person from somewhere.
I.e. kicking someone out of a bar
I've also heard it used almost exclusively in terms of "getting rid of someone/something from where it currently is", most commonly "86 that thought/idea" in place of "forget that" or similar
Turns out it originally is from food menus
I always heard it as "8 miles out, 6 feet under" I.e murdered and body dumped ages away.
Im actually really surprised no one else mentioned that one
It's always been from restaurants as far as I remember. I've only ever heard it in restaurant contexts; i.e. "we're 86 French fries" or something like that.
