The rest of the comments are jokes. But this is really great news.

Taylor Swift is one of the most influential people on this planet. And she sings Country music—which often has fans that skew conservative.

When “The Dixie Chicks” spoke out against George W. Bush 20 years ago, it tanked their singing career.

Even Dolly Parton takes what happened to the Dixie Chicks as a sign that she has to be politically neutral.

Taylor Swift taking a stance is a huge win.

Taylor Swift taking a stance is a huge win for genocide

[-] BurgerPunk@hexbear.net 47 points 2 months ago

Genocide has never been more popular. What great news. Way to take a stance! This is a huge win!

[-] Stolen_Stolen_Valor@hexbear.net 79 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

This is a false equivalence. The Dixie Chicks correctly stood against the invasion of Iraq, during a time when Americans were insane and bloodthirsty. (Not that this has changed, but the wound was still fresh so to speak.)

The equivalent stance would be Taylor speaking out about Americas involvement in Gaza and the arming of Israel. By endorsing the Democratic nominee who by all accounts intends to continue letting Israel commit a genocide she is, in fact, doing the exact opposite of what you are suggesting.

The Dixie Chicks bucked the status quo, Taylor is endorsing it.

It's only a win if you support the democrats, and considering their unlimited support for genocide, militarizing the border, and contempt for the working class, I'm not sure how one could.

[-] SeekTheDeletion@hexbear.net 70 points 2 months ago

the dixie chicks were standing up against the Iraq War

Taylor Swift is standing up for a party doing genocide in Palestine

I thought it meant "Dixie Chicks took a stance and their careers tanked" ergo "Tay Tay taking a stance will tank her career", thus "good for the environment if she's no longer taking 16 private jet trips a week"

then I saw the .ee

[-] Thallo@hexbear.net 31 points 2 months ago

Haha, good joke, comrade dean-smile

.ee dean-frown

I thought we agreed to call them "default takes"

I think you're in the wrong place. We don't think its great news or a win, and we actually do think its a joke at best. We aren't on the side of supporting genocide which red and blue maga are both on

[-] GayTuckerCarlson@hexbear.net 42 points 2 months ago

And she sings Country music

lmao imagine some George Jones boomer listening to 1989

[-] Findom_DeLuise@hexbear.net 30 points 2 months ago

"Fortnight"

is-this IS THIS COUNTRY MUSIC?

[-] blobjim@hexbear.net 38 points 2 months ago

It tanked their career because they opposed the war the US was carrying out. They didn't endorse the person executing it.

[-] HelltakerHomosexual@hexbear.net 38 points 2 months ago

we are not joking, death to america, 9/11 was good

[-] booty@hexbear.net 37 points 2 months ago

Oh yeah, more support for genocidal racist cops, greeeeeat news

[-] HelltakerHomosexual@hexbear.net 16 points 2 months ago

[-] CthulhusIntern@hexbear.net 34 points 2 months ago

Her 5 fans who hope she goes back to country music but still stan her for some reason can't wait to vote for Kamala!

[-] gay_king_prince_charles@hexbear.net 34 points 2 months ago

Whom among us can forget such nasally-crooned blue collar odes to bitter divorce, dearly departed dogs, and broken down pickup trucks such as *checks notes* "Shake it Off" or "Blank Space"

[-] Nakoichi@hexbear.net 23 points 2 months ago

You have to be familiar with my favorite boomer dad joke:

You know what you get when you play country backwards?

spoilerYou get your wife back, your dog back, and your truck back

[-] Ram_The_Manparts@hexbear.net 33 points 2 months ago

Taylor Swift taking a stance is a huge win.

She chose 99.9% Hitler over 100% Hitler! So brave! WaoW!

[-] SoloboiNanook@hexbear.net 33 points 2 months ago

People taking this dipshits politically illiterate opinion on politics seriously is another sign that this country is deeply unserious and as a whole should not be taken seriously.

[-] ashinadash@hexbear.net 29 points 2 months ago

Look right, I think this is a superb bit. It's hilarious that anyone would see this as anything other than a sign we're in hell, and lots of people have fallen for the bait, masterful play. You might wanna let people know it's a bit so everyone can congratulate your comedic genius, don't get too committed.

[-] alexandra_kollontai@hexbear.net 24 points 2 months ago

When “The Dixie Chicks” spoke out against George W. Bush 20 years ago, it tanked their singing career.

That sucks. Can you explain why you said it's a huge win for Swift? The conclusion I drew from your post was that it would tank Swift's career too.
