....how does ANY game cost $400,000,000?

No, seriously: does that include an unlimited drugs and hookers for the c-levels budget or something?

the credits for concord list 2000 employees. It was also in development for 6 years (I would guess it probably suffered "development hell")

Imagine getting 2000-ish people to work on a project for 6 years just to fart out a hero shooter who’s main claim to fame is being dead on arrival.

Wasn't GTA 5 like 100 millions? I mean it's insane but in the ballpark.

[-] omarfw@lemmy.world 24 points 1 year ago

265 million in 2013 money which is 358 million in 2024 money.

IIRC, it's more like 250 million, but 250 million is still basically half of whatever this generic-ass live-service FPS game ended up costing, and it's certainly not to the scope or scale of GTA5.

I feel like they could have come up with a copycat hero shooter for like 20 million tops.

I'll do it for 5!

Star citizen. I think it has passed that? Still only in early alpha

[-] ripcord@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

It's over $850M at the moment.

And none of it is at a loss. People gladly fork over money and are happy getting fleeced. Not even mad at them, anymore.
