I think given he's wearing it as headwear, rather than just a scarf suggests a political intent, rather than accidental fashion.
I think he probably is ignorant but nearly a year of Israel doing war crimes could change someone's opinion if they only ever had a surface level understanding.
Especially with some other musicians under fire for their pro-Palestine positions (Macklemore, Chappell Roan etc)
Lots of normal people with otherwise shitty political opinions are very tired of seeing pictures and videos of dismembered children
