Iirc crime and punishment started off with him masturbating over how he was an uber mensch who COULD kill and he did it to prove it and stealing her valuables was an afterthought. She was also a pawnbroker not a landlord. Well probably both but pawnbroker was how i remember her relationship to Raskolnikov
