I put "Reddit employee" in quotation marks because they're giving the vibe that they're praising that website so much.

It’s really dependent on your instance as well. Lemmy is not homogenous.

I do imagine the comments listed on a YouTube video about gardening have to be different than those in a video about the Philadelphia Eagles. But that's just because it's the city of brotherly love, and those gardeners are fucking vicious.

[-] NOT_RICK@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Gotta love when your coach tells the team you are a flower that hasn't bloomed yet.

You're like this flower here, you'll bloom someday and smell much better than you do in this locker room I hope.

[-] taiyang@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Oh no I'm reading the news too much because I read that as Pedophilia Eagles. Ya'know, the fightin' Epsteins. Yes, very different comments indeed.

[-] Taleya@aussie.zone 3 points 1 week ago

What's the bet they're actually just stepping out of an echo chamber for the first time and can't hack being told their opinions are shit

[-] breakingcups@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

I mean, depending on which instance they joined they could've just as easily stepped into an even smaller echo chamber. Lemmy as a concept isn't magically free from them.

[-] onslaught545@lemmy.zip 0 points 1 week ago

Lemmy has a ton of echo chambers. It's a real problem.

[-] Kolanaki@pawb.social 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Yeah, but the problem isn't inherent to a platform. It's inherent to humanity.

[-] rustyfish@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Ok, I’m gonna be real with you for a moment. You guys are some of the most wholesome, respectful and emotionally intelligent people I have ever seen online.

Yes, every now and then someone writes something edgy. I am not calling anyone in particular out. I am guilty of this too (as you are about to see in a moment).

But calling users here “12 yr old keyboard warriors” while being on Reddit is probably the dumbest take I have ever witnessed. Which says a lot if you consider we are talking about the website that came up with the CumBox.

In the 5-ish years I was on Reddit I got death threats on a regular basis. I got tagged for the suicide bot multiple times a year. I had some very normal Reddit user send me rape threats followed by animal porn.

And Reddit did nothing.

Meanwhile our admins actually do shit that makes this site better instead of just sucking each other off, crying it’s not the real greedy pig boy they’re orally pleasing.

What I am trying to say is: This is obviously rage bait and I fell for it. Which is soooooooo Reddit and it triggers me that it did so all across the internet.

[-] Dis32@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

From what I've seen so far during my short time in Lemmy, there doesn't seem to be any fuss about mods (or lack thereof) being power hungry and that's good. And the people I've interacted with so far seemed to be helpful most of the time, whether I've got a gardening related question. You can't escape hostility anywhere so you just gotta have to eat those sometimes but we move on. I've also gotten the "Reddit cares" bot message because I seemed to have commented something about Stardew valley which wasn't even that bad, but I don't remember what I said but I know what I said wasn't bad to incur such a bot sent my way lol. Glad you (and I) found this place and hope to use this for years to come and hopefully no Lemmy gatekeepers tells us we can't be here 👋🏽

[-] MotoAsh@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago

Oh there has been some, but 99% of the time it's someone clearly either mentally (or literally) 10 years old whining about their esgy trolling/dumbass ignorance being removed ... or the tanky admins/mods from .ml banning opinions and news they don't like.

[-] Zaktor@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 week ago

That suicide bot still being active when it became primarily a tool for harassment is so so stupid.

[-] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 1 week ago

Fuck you, get fucked you fucking piece of shit!

Just kidding. I love you folks. Cheers.

[-] muusemuuse@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago

I’ve found lemmy to be one of the more civil places to go online anymore. I don’t know what this guy is bitching about.

[-] fluffykittycat@slrpnk.net 1 points 1 week ago

It's as polite as early 2010's reddit was. Some assholes but that's just GIFT we fell from the garden of Eden in September '93 what can ya do. But not the turbo acceleration nasty of torment nexus corpotrash

[-] Ek-Hou-Van-Braai@piefed.social 1 points 1 week ago

It's been the absolute opposite for me

[-] Dis32@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Same here to be honest, from what I'm experiencing now since I've joined is nothing but a mix of helpful and funny responses, mostly helpful and have yet to see mean response.

[-] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago

you smell like cabbage farts.

[-] Dis32@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Well that was mean

[-] NOT_RICK@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Lots of name calling

12 year old keyboard warriors

Somebody misplaced their mirror

[-] tacosanonymous@mander.xyz 1 points 1 week ago

Welcome to the online world, kid.

Also, I’m pretty sure lemme skews much older than 12. It's 40+ year olds calling you names.

The only real problem with lemme is that it's not big enough to replace most niche communities on larger platforms. If I have a specific question about a hobby, video game, or whatever, I’m not using lemme. I hope to someday.

[-] ImplyingImplications@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 week ago

It's 40+ year olds calling you names.

That always makes it a bit worse. When I see ignorant comments on other sites, I usually tell myself it might be made by an edgy teenager. Can't do that on Lemmy. That's a grown adult praising North Korea...

[-] _AutumnMoon_@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 week ago

ah, yes because as we all know, reddit is known for its very intelligent conversation

[-] brucethemoose@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

I dunno how this is real. I keep getting shadowbanned on Reddit (when I literally just post technical/fandom comments in 2 niche subs), and I think it’s whenever I link Lemmy.

[-] TwinTitans@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

It’s the internet. Some people are helpful and some people are dicks. It’s just the way it is.

[-] Dis32@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Clearly not for this guy, thinks that Lemmy is the only one out there that is toxic in their opinion 😂

[-] Dis32@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago

You can post a wholesome post on Reddit and someone will come along being hostile, but then the people will down vote them to oblivion which never fails to make me laugh. I'm perma banned on Reddit for something I don't remember but I'm pretty sure what I've said wasn't even all mean just pointed out a flaw or something like that 😅

but you're here now and that's all that matters, glad you made it 😊

[-] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 0 points 1 week ago

I think the assessment is correct: if not a reddit agent, they are certainly working to advance that platform's distrust of Lemmy.

[-] BeardedGingerWonder@feddit.uk 1 points 1 week ago

He's a gosh darned poopy head is what he is

[-] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 0 points 1 week ago

OP made a follow up post:

Almost a week here in lemmy and I still don't know how instances work?

But they haven't commented here or there even once.

[-] Dis32@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Hello mate, how are you? 👋🏽

[-] jaybone@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 week ago

They are commenting in this thread. Either way, what’s your point?

[-] Mk23simp@lemmy.blahaj.zone -1 points 1 week ago

Sounds like maybe they chose Hexbear as their instance. I haven't seen nearly that much toxicity on Lemmy, except from hexbear users (before defederation).

[-] Gladaed@feddit.org -1 points 1 week ago

Framing them as an employee is bad faith. And misleading.

[-] FeelzGoodMan420@eviltoast.org -1 points 1 week ago

I agree with this 100%. The quality of posts here is abysmal.

[-] Dis32@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago

Isn't that everywhere? Not just here in Lemmy

Sorry for the late reply.

[-] FeelzGoodMan420@eviltoast.org -1 points 1 week ago

Lemmy is especially toxic from what I've noticed.

[-] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 0 points 1 week ago

Comments, too 😉

[-] AmidFuror@fedia.io -1 points 1 week ago

Aren't you making the poster's point for him? You just made a whole new post to call him a "Reddit Employee" because you didn't believe he had the experience he wrote he had.
