I think NAT is one reason why the internet is so centralized. If everyone had a static IP you could do all sorts of decentralized cool stuff.

Yeah but DLS would be a significant downgrade for many people, who already fight the suggestion to only eat meat six days a week tooth and nail.

https://pubs.acs.org/doi/suppl/10.1021/acs.est.3c03957/suppl_file/es3c03957_si_001.pdf

Things that count as DLS:

  • 10 m² of personal living space + 20 m² for every 4 ppl as bathroom / kitchen
  • 2100 kcal/day
  • 1400 kWh/year, but this already includes public services (education/healthcare)
  • 1 washing machine per 20 ppl
  • 2.4 kg clothing / year
  • wear tops for three days and bottoms for 15 days without washing
  • 1 laptop per 4 people with a yearly power consumption of 62 kWh. (bizzarely they talk about an 800 MHz computer and seem to confuse HDD and RAM). If your gaming computer used 400 W you could use it for 150 hr/year.

Today, I switched the last of my Windows machines to Linux: my gaming PC. I've been using Linux on servers for many years but was a bit apprehensive for gaming.

Turns out it just... works. Just installed steam and turned proton on, have zero performance or other issues. I'm using Ubuntu 25.04 for the 6.14 kernels NT emulation performance tweaks. Aside from there not being a catalyst driver for it and so I can't undervolt my card everything is great.

As you add more and more issues to the protests, the set of people that have the same opinion on every single issue gets smaller and smaller, until your movement falls apart.

In Germany around the same time, climate protests started to take stances on immigration and cultural approbation and also fell apart as a result.

The binary is called apt-get. There are others like apt-cache etc.

Apt is a script that just figures out which binary to use and passes the arguments on.

  • apt update -> apt-get update
  • apt policy -> apt-cache policy

That dude should not have a moment of peace and quiet until he stops ruining peoples lives.

You play as a prosecutor in the mid 50s West Germany, tasked with prosecuting Nazi Crimes. The cases are real, as is the head prosecutor Fritz Bauer.

As far as detective games go, I really liked this one. They don't railroad you - it's totally possible to miss evidence and subsequently lose in court. It also seems you can solve things in various different ways.

But I most liked how it portraits the work of these prosecutors, and how much they were hated by the population. It's 10 years after the war, and most people just want to forget. I didn't know about Fritz Bauer before but the dude is an absolute hero.

“Nothing belongs to the past, everything is still present and can become the future again.” – Fritz Bauer

If you search for it, its only reported by two outlets. There is not a single German newspaper reporting this, including left wing or Berlin regional ones. Searching for the names in the articles returns no results linked to Berlin or Free Palestine at all. The name of the public official also turns up nothing.

Could be misinformation.

Get a big mainstream distro and stop tinkering with it.

I just tried for 10 minutes to edit a date in a spreadsheet in nextcloud mobile and it didn't let me.

I just need an online office suite that works so I am not forced to use GSuite.

Mormons believe that a biblical angel revealed prophecies indirectly to Joseph Smith, who wrote it down in the book of Mormon.

Muslims believe that the biblical angel Gabriel revealed prophecies to Muhammad, who wrote it down in the Quran.

So for those unaware. If followed through this would be the biggest economic crisis worldwide, since the great depression. No hyperbole.

US treasury bonds are the way the US government borrows money. They are most of the debt. They are also the "safe asset". Because it was assumed that the US, being the sole superpower and the biggest economy, would always pay back its debts. Because of this whenever organizations needed to park money super safely, they would use US government bonds.

Around 30 trillion worldwide, that is 1/3 of the world's GDP, is held in US bonds.

You know who the biggest borrowers of US debt are? Pension funds. And you know the biggest one of all of them? Social Security. US social security holds around 3 trillion of US debt. Debt that would suddenly be worth nothing anymore.

In total, around 27 trillion of treasury bonds are held in the US by pension funds, local governments, etc. These would be gone.

Other countries would suddenly lose 3 trillion, biggest of which are Japan, China and the UK. Belgium Luxembourg and Switzerland hold a huge share compared to their economy, and could collapse completely.

But hey, at least the national debt is gone, right?

Well.. No one would borrow the US money anymore. Who would trust them anymore? Likely, this would be the end of the USD as the worlds reserve currency. With that, I doubt military spending could be upheld. The US would collapse as a superpower.
