Turns out at least two whitehats found the vulnerability and reported it directly to the company who acknowledged the reports.

We stopped watching AHS for a few years and I recently grabbed season 8 as a place to start watching again since we stopped somewhere before then.

Anyway it's an odd season, if you haven't seen it, it mashes together / brings back several of the earlier seasons and their characters (which is unusual for AHS, where seasons tend to be standalone.)

This season could have come out this year or last year (or next year) and other than being "a bit too unsubtle" it would fit right in.

There's magic and warlocks and human sacrifice and the illuminati and the antichrist and tech bro billionaire drug addict messianic satanists building robots (with a dash of Mossad, to be perfect for our dark lord! I'm not joking.)

It was not the greatest season ever but it was kind of a surreal trip given how relevant a lot of the topics are and how accurately the creators lampoon the forces of evil and so on.

I can't help but compare this to the dash-to-the-nearest-bunker routine in Israel, though I'm sure its not a reasonable comparison.

Pretty embarrassing to install an extension called "lib redirect" but I guess that's what it does, redirect my liberal http requests to more privacy respecting alternatives.

These proxy frontends are super useful for VPN users encountering "suspicious traffic" blocks and for browsing corpo social media sites without logging in.

ETA: you don't have to enable it for all supported sites, just whatever's useful for you.

There are other redirect extensions but this one's been more convenient than others I've tried and should be easier to convince other people on my LAN to try out before I'm forced to create fancy routing rules so someone can keep watching youtube or w/e.

I've been trying to figure out how to post and talk about this paper I found while trying to learn about Herzl and the origins of Israel.

The linked paper / essay is interesting, but what left me stunned was seeing Herzl's own words in the quoted excerpts, where he talks about what he believes is the root causes of the persecution of Jewish people and how he thinks it can be solved.

I'm going to CW from here. Reading the essay would be a good idea for better contextual understanding.

I think I first read this thing a couple of weeks ago but it keeps intruding on my thoughts.

The notion of good Jews and bad Jews and the necessity for the good to exterminate the bad to alleviate the persecution of the whole - familiar rhetoric, I've seen the same thing expressed by various chauvinists and ethnic supremacists, historical and contemporary.

I guess why this keeps nagging at me is that so much of this thinking actually did become a blueprint for the founding of Israel.

and that the words are so shockingly hateful that they make the lie of Israel's being necessary for the peace and security of all Jewish people bitterly laughable.

Herzl wanted to purify his own "tribe" of the members which be believed fully embodied the worst antisemitic stereotypes. You could pass his words off as German Nazi propaganda without altering a thing. He's still considered the founding visionary for the state that exists today.

For some reason I didn't expect it to be this blatant and disgusting. For some reason I thought if I went far enough back I'd find something other than hate and more antisemitism, that it'd been a different time and that maybe the project started with at least naively 'positive' intentions.

Dunno why I thought that. Propaganda I suppose.

Draft changes would create new exceptions for AI companies that would allow them to legally process special categories of data (like a person’s religious or political beliefs, ethnicity or health data) to train and operate their tech. The Commission is also planning to reframe the definition of such special category data, which are afforded extra protections under the privacy rules.

Documents seen by POLITICO show that Estonia, France, Austria and Slovenia are firmly against any rewrite of the General Data Protection Regulation. Germany — usually seen as one of the most privacy-minded countries — on the other hand is pushing for big changes to help AI.

This isn't good.
