I just hope that Don Jr deep down knows how much his dad fucking hates him
And crucially, they can only imagine winning an argument in good faith against a good faith opponent, without fundamentally changing the politics of their opponent outside of this one argument. Republicans imagine the mass executions of democrats, while democrats imagine one Republican doing the right thing and voting on some milquetoast reform bill.
So the reason why this movement specifically is tied to these “big” schools is twofold:
The “divest” part of BDS is directed at wealthy private schools like Harvard and Yale who have large financial stakes in the defense industry and Israeli companies. Their schools are, through their investments, much more complicit than Podunk State.
These elite schools are recruiting and/or research institutions for the military/industrial complex, and are therefore more involved than other institutions. Schools like Stanford are integral to the maintenance and perpetuation of the war machine, and therefore the actions of the student body are in response to that context.
So the “cool” part of this is obviously deeply ironic, but I think the bit hinges entirely on the fact that Hunter is such an extreme fuckup to the point of caricature. While I genuinely don’t know anything about him other than what was said on Chapo, I do think it’s funny that the son of a sitting president once ascribed to Liberation Theology (which is good). Also, Don Jr. would absolutely shit his pants if he was in the same room as Hunter, which would be funny.
