Cropping. (lemmy.dbzer0.com)

TranscriptA tumblr post by maryoliveoil on June 6th saying "This is so fucking funny".
Attached to the post is a picture of a page on a magazine. It says "girl. finger her.". It has a picture of a woman from some movie/tv show.
The second image shows the page, and the page before it that has the rest of the headline. It says "She's this mysterious girl. The doctor can't put his finger on what it is about her.".

It has a reblog by rosemaryslullany with a cropped version of the first image, just containing the words "girl. finger her." and the picture of the woman's face.

There is a final reblog by foone which just has the word "finger" and a picture of Mike Ehrmantraut in the place of the original person.

I fell in love with Clara, so I would do anything for her.

[-] SanctimoniousApe@lemmings.world 10 points 1 month ago

But the post is demanding you do something TO her.

If you insist...

Some woman? That's Jenna Coleman.

[-] irelephant@lemmy.dbzer0.com 20 points 1 month ago

I have no idea who that is.

She’s this mysterious girl. The doctor can’t put his finger on what it is about her.

[-] irelephant@lemmy.dbzer0.com 18 points 1 month ago

Oh, right. That clears it up.

I saw a very similar exchange happen in the early Animorphs books.

Talented and cute actress.

Jenna Coleman played Clara, a polarizing character in the popular series Doctor Who. In Doctor Who, the main character is often referred to or addressed as "The Doctor" or just "Doctor," which may clarify certain parts of your original post.

I need to add that her character in Dr. Who is a big part of why the Peter Capaldi episodes were a shitshow. It was written so that the Doctor became completely dependent on her.

Do not that that's not the actress's fault. It's Stephen Moffet's fault for being a terrible head writer. He's good for short runs as a guest writer, but he should never have been put in charge

I absolutely loved the capaldi episodes. To each their own I guess.

So that's the "kid named finger" everyone keeps talking about?

I think the "transcript" does a poor job conveying the image description. It's an article spread across two physical magazine pages with the multi-line article title also partially on the second page. If the second page is taken by itself, then the only words from the title that are seen are "girl. finger her." - each word on a separate line, all alongside an image of the character "Clara" from the TV show "Doctor Who."

I know physical magazines aren't so common anymore, but they haven't entirely left social consciousness yet, have they? If so, then please just bury me now.

EDIT: fixed a word.

They still exist in doctors offices.

[-] irelephant@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 month ago

I didn't know who half the people were.

Im honestly tempted to not bother with alt texts most of the time.

That's okay, you could have just said "a woman in an old-style dress" or something along those lines. The effort is appreciated - I guess I just was surprised that the fact it was a magazine spread wasn't pointed out to explain what was going on. Probably partly me showing my age.
