I've been using Tusky for browsing mastodon for a while and really enjoyed its experience. But then they moved the boost button all the way down to the bottom of the screen and that's just too much traveling for my thumb. What used to be a seamless experience has been dragged out, and enlarged to take up a quarter of the screen.

I tried switching to Husky for a few days but its missing some key functions I like about Tusky, like being able to follow and block hashtags, and change "load more" behavior to open up instead of down. It seems to be more a Plemora thing anyway.

I don't have the skills to fork Tusky, so I'm wondering if there's a way to basically undo an update. How do I get back to an earlier version?

can't stand them cause i hate vertical videos. at first they were restricted to vine, then tiktok... then they broke containment and every video service out there wanted to stuff them in their app whether people asked for them or not.

I was able to just install F-droid and from there get Obtainium to import my usual apps, including Librera which I prefer over KoReader. No jailbreak necessary.

However... I do eventually wanna jailbreak it and get Amazon's presence off there entirely if I can. Thanks for the references, for when I get there.

Just letting the more non-techy people know that you can get FOSS apps like KoReader without having to go all the way, so to speak.

Intuition Pumps And Other Tools for Thinking by Daniel C. Dennett is a decent introduction.

I added a keyword to be blocked but it's still showing posts where that word shows up. Not sure if it's because the keyword is in descriptions and/or comments instead of just the title.

unfortunately this is not free on GOG right now, just 75% off. I see this a UK community though so maybe it is free, but only in UK?

another +1 for Heroic. Lutris never worked for me, would only install games but not launch them, and I'm not skilled enough to figure out why. Almost certainly something specific to my setup. But Heroic makes things easy-peasy.

And yeah, if Heoric doesn't work for some reason, Bottles usually will.

I loved it. Loved the historical setting and its exploration of racism, imperialism, capitalist exploitation at that time and place with the perspectives of diverse characters.

I already enjoy linguistics and learning languages, so I may be biased towards already liking the premise of the novel. (And dark academia is totally up my alley.) The way the author explores the nature of language and how certain parts of ideas always get lost in translation was pretty cool; and using that as a form of magic (that could then be exploited only from native speakers of the language no less) was so cleverly done.

Add in the character conflicts between the four friends, a campus strike, and working class solidarity (with a dash of "be gay do crime")... I was hooked.

project 2025 will help billionaires take away our ability to unionize. it will help SCOTUS and lower courts pass anti-abortion and anti-trans laws, leading to countless deaths (children included) and suicide. it already has in some states. it will gut public education. it will extend mass surveillance. and so much more.

yes, their foreign policy is the typical establishment bullshit. but domestically, we need to secure our freedoms to protest and unionize at the ballot box if we want to continue to be able to protest in the streets.
