Was there even tests?

Proton is open source. Anyone can pull it together and integrate it. Gog have been doing DRM free games for a while, they'll be quite keen to fill this niche. Epic probably won't care. If none do, someone will want to.

Why does this feel lie a viral marketing campaign to get people to watch stuff on X?

"I interviewed Elon, got cancelled and he mad. Watch on X". It just doesn't add up to me.

Edit: It's not on X, apparently. It's on YouTube. So I was probably a little out on this. Very clever viral marketing still, but hopefully not to the benefit of X.

Fossify Contacts (fork of Simple Contacts) and Fossify SMS Messenger (fork of Simple SMS Messenger) have been released on F-Droid.

Other Fossify apps available for download on F-Droid:

(ICYMI, Simple Mobile Tools suite was acquired by an adware company and their apps on the Google Play Store now contain trackers and unnecessary permissions. This report from Exodus shows that the old version of Simple Gallery had 0 trackers and 10 permissions, whereas the app, after sale, contains 9 trackers and 21 permissions!)

About Fossify: Fossify is all about community-backed, open-source, and ad-free mobile apps. A fork of the SimpleMobileTools, which is no longer maintained, and we’re here to continue the legacy, bringing simple and private tech to everyone.

Some folks recommended SimpleMobileTools such as calendar. After it was sold off, a fork was created by one of their contributors, and it's released on F-droid now.

Wanted to give this update in case folk were curious.

If you're on the country code, you open yourself up to risk. ml has been a risk before.

Your headline is misleading though. Taliban didn't kill it. Admin did.

Welcome, and keep up the good work. Good to see you here.

Even if you don't like communists. Politics plays a big part in open source for many, and giving power to people and away from corporations. While we were all happy and content on reddit, those guys were grinding away to build something for people. It did not appear over night. To some extent it is what drives and motivates people. I understand you are not communist and don't agree with the philosophy, but it's worth at least respecting that it plays a part in how people operate and is a reason why they self-sacrifice the way they do.

I'm personally a socialist and don't agree with tankies support of certain countries administrations (past and present), but share a similar view of the world in wanting power in the hands of people, not corporations. I think we need to go further to respect other people's views, even if we do not agree with them. Shitting all over them (and the platform) based on their views while supporting the thing they build does feel somewhat disrespectful. It's the same as religion in some ways. You can fundamentally disagree with a religion while conducting yourself in a respectful manner when around those that differ from your views.

Imagine saying "I didn't want to use x because of the creators , but later realised the religious view didn't impose on my own, so I have given it another shot."

I think we need to get to a world where we can be respectful of people having different views even if we do not agree with them and would be quite happy to deconstruct it in debate.

I don't think you guys cared when you defederated from the rest of the fediverse and turned up your nose at everyone else. I'm not sure why you care now. You guys go and do your thing, but I don't think you're very relevant to the fediverse.

You speak very vaguely, and I don't think you're being fully honest with your reasoning, but by this point, I don't think it really matters.

If you leave it too long, folks will just register for another instance, and all momentum will be gone.

I wouldn't take too long getting the rescue boat out when folk are in the ocean....

Is it weird that the only celebrity who's getting a public print of emissions is one that is despised by a political party for getting people out to vote?

I don't really care much about her, but this feels like "how do we get young people to not listen to this person... ah, let's go with emissions".

Hi. No one is creating content on Threads, can we steal your content, please?

Looks like UK is going the same way as a few states. Spare a thought for us. So messed up this increasing surveillance state.

The Chrome team says they're not going to pursue Web Integrity but...

it is piloting a new Android WebView Media Integrity API that’s “narrowly scoped, and only targets WebViews embedded in apps.”

They say its because the team "heard your feedback." I'm sure that's true, and I can wildly speculate that all the current anti-trust attention was a factor too.

Many said we couldn’t stop it. We, like many, applied pressure, and they backed the fuck off.

We have no room for complacency now though. Google cannot be allowed to dictate web standards. Firefox needs to eat into that Chromium market share.

Never forgive. Never forget.

Hi, all.

We've grown considerably since rebuilding the sub (see https://lemmy.ml/post/2262830). Active monthly users 150 -> 380. 3.5k -> 5.42k subs. It seems to be growing organically now, and the higher we go, the more people will stumble across it. There is always a need to get away from Google, and hopefully our community can help people with this.

If you'd like to join us to help moderate so we have folk in place as we need them, that would be awesome.

If you are interested. Please send a message about why you think you'd be good for the role, and also an example post/comment in this community previously.

Thanks,

CrypticCoffee

How convenient these tech problems are.

Sorry, we cannot delete your account because... checks notes... technical problems.

Is it just me that keeps seeing questions about Skiff that look more like adverts?

It... doesn't feel... organic.

Apologies for multiple posts today. I hadn't planned on doing so. I stumbled across this and it communicates effectively what this is. As many are confused by this, it could be a reasonable bit of information.

Mozilla's position on WEI is pretty solid.

Oh boy, it's happening. Google is flexing it's muscles and abusing it's market position. It has never been a better way to convince and support family and friends in moving across to Firefox, a fast and privacy supporting browser.

I have suspected for a while it is astroturfing. Same as with GIMP and Libre Office where inevitably someone will trash the UI as it's "soooo bad". If you say a lie, and repeat it enough, people start to believe it.

And since you won't be able to modify web pages, it will also mean the end of customization, either for looks (ie. DarkReader, Stylus), conveniance (ie. Tampermonkey) or accessibility.

The community feedback is... interesting to say the least.

It does seem that using Chrome (or Chrome based browsers) is just going to going to perpetuate this. Firefox has never been more important IMHO.

Hi all, I acquired moderator to recover this sub. I was dreading helping to build the community only for it to get spammed out of existence. This is our sub and we need to figure out the best way of going about it, what it should contain and what it shouldn't contain.

I have no desire of being sole mod, and perhaps not at all long term, and I would like people to join us.

I'm reluctant to dive into promoting people and regret it, and don't want to hold off too long and leave that all to me, so I'm open to feedback or challenge on how we do this. Maybe it's not my call at all. A few people may shine through as good people to take this forward and help build this community.

Please feel free to give your views on what this community should or shouldn't be. I will link to privacy and relevant communities so we can keep this one focussed.

A big shout out to comcreator@lemmy.world at https://lemm.ee/post/704704 for helping to avoid fragmentation. They probably have a claim for mod if there is no objections.
