Many many thanks! First time I have won a photo competition. Lovely to be a member of such talented people and love this little corner of the internet.

Heavy snow over the past few days in South Germany. Temperatures down to minus 15 degrees but perfectly blue skies and stunning landscapes for those that brave the cold.

Then why not say every rouble made in Russia will go to humanitarian aid? I’ll tell you why; it’s because they are still making money by being in Russia. It’s corporate greed through and through. These fuckers make no sacrifice until it hurts their bottom line.

As some may have realised I like enjoy all forms of photography but find myself drawn towards the more abstract. This is a water drop shot taken a while ago. I must admit this is actually my sons capture; we were playing with the drop settings and he got this one.

These guys piss me off so much.

My mum was a cleaner at a hospital. She then worked her way up to the cleaning manager. My childhood is filled with memories of her colleagues who were her friends. She didn’t need to work as my dad had a good job; she did it to support me and my brother through studies and university.

She taught me to respect people. Their profession is irrelevant; everyone deserves respect and acknowledgment. It was single handedly the best lesson that a parent can give and one that I have adhered to all my life.

I am on first name terms with all the service personnel where I live and work. I always give thanks to them and leave gifts at Christmas/birthdays, etc to show my appreciation. When a waiter fills my glass or takes my plates a simple Thank-you is the least we can say.

Thanks to my mum working I came through university with little debts and have climbed the heights of the corporate ladder. You would not believe the number of times my peers have pulled me up for what I consider common curtesy with comments like “you don’t need to thank them; it’s their job”. You know what… fuck those guys; if am at a business lunch with a potential supplier and they treat the staff like shit the deal is off the table. Have even blocked hires if I hear they are disrespectful to the secretaries or security staff.

We have not walked in other peoples shoes and have no idea what they have gone through. Until they disrespect you or you beliefs everyone deserves your respect.

End of rant.. :-)

Deleted all my comment and post history from there when I was directed to Lemmy. Zero regrets. Have not looked back. Find the engagement here far better; proper discussions without the trolls. Loving it.. Also tried Mastodon and enjoying that too even though I never used twitter.

Used to spend hours each day on Reddit and was active contributor on the subreddits I subscribed to. Hoping we get some of the less popular and specialised communities here so we all got to make an effort to support the smaller ones by posting and commenting.

I understand completely but unfortunately the title “Philips eco glow e65 lit by laying on an iPad Pro 128gb taken with Godox lighting on a Sony A7 iiii with Sony G-Master 90mm and Sandisk extreme Pro sd card” seemed a bit overkill.

A cheap usb microscope. I wanted to get into macro photography but my eyesight is pretty terrible even with glasses and struggle to see fine details so struggled to set the mounts up. (Small insects, grains, etc)

Saw a usb microscope for 20€ on Amazon and thought for 20 euro it’s going to be terrible but worth a punt. It’s bloody brilliant. Have used it for a whole variety of things from threading needles to soldering work, repairing stuff with glue and tightening up glasses as well as the macro stuff. Coupled with some ‘helping hands’ it’s a permanent fixture on the pc desk.

Took a colour changing lightbulb and put it into a sealed empty Pringles can. Suspended this from a frame by the power cable. Made a small hole in the Pringles can for the light to come through. Pointed camera upwards and took a long exposure of the swinging can whilst changing the colour of the lightbulb using the remote. Really happy the way it turned out. (Was the third attempt after trying with laser pens, etc.) It really simple to set up and you can generate a lot of different effects.

I hope it better than the new outlook which is in test. I tried it for 2 days before switching it off. It’s truly awful.

Reminds me of the time we first visited Venice. Wife and I were admiring the splendour of St Marks Square (Piazza San Marco) and were stood next to some American tourists and overheard one say, "Oh my god this place is amazing; can you imagine how great its going to be in a few years when they finish it." There was zero construction work going on......

Original was black and white and required restoration. Would be interested to know the location. Colourised in Photoshop.

Found my grandfathers photo album from the war. He was stationed in India for servers years serving with the Lincolnshire Regiment as a Signaller. He returned able to speak fluent Urdu. The albums is about 30 pages and contains many images of his travels including the Kyber pass and war camps.
