Similarly, the process for purifying aluminum is still the same as it was when it was first invented. Prior to the discovery of the Hall-Héroult processes in the mid 1800’s, (two men discovered the same process at the same time in different parts of the world,) pure aluminum was extremely rare. It used to be considered a fine metal, more expensive than silver or gold; Napoleon famously had aluminum silverware that he would use (instead of real silver) when he wanted to impress guests.

Debrid is actually pretty awful for torrents though, because it doesn’t seed at all. If everyone used it, nobody could. Encouraging others to use debrid is just marching debrid towards an early death.

Harris currently has like 64M votes. This same time 4 years ago, Biden had +80M.Democrat voters didn’t fucking show up.

Almost as if running a centrist platform to try to pick up republican votes was a bad idea, and only disheartened democrat voters. Only 4% of registered republicans voted for Harris, the same as Biden. Hopefully democrats learned something from this, but that’s doubtful.

Yup exactly this. Republicans tend to vote early and be in areas that get counted faster; It’s easier to count 1000 rural votes than it is to count 10000 urban votes. So he’ll take the early numbers and declare victory, then send it all the way to the SCOTUS when the blue votes begin to catch up. And (unless something drastically shifts and there is a major upset in the court) the SCOTUS will hand it to him.

Unless you’re designing the speakers’ circuitry, testing mic element response curves, designing the mic housing, etc, you’re not an engineer. You’re just a technician. This is like saying IT Help Desk is staffed by software engineers. They may have one or two actual engineers available, but you’re definitely not going to be talking to them for the daily “I don’t know the difference between rebooting and turning my monitor off and back on again” issues. IT Help Desk has techs who deal with the actual operation.

The only boots-on-the-ground position that might qualify for an actual engineering title would be the system designer, who did the math (or at least plugged all the numbers into their program) to determine where/how to set up the line arrays for adequate and even coverage throughout the room. At least they dip their toes into acousticians’ territory, so they may qualify as an engineer if you stretch the definition a little bit.

Source: Am an audio tech; Not an engineer.

I also have issues with the fact that staging refers to lighting electricians as… Well… Electricians. In other industries, an electrician will have a journeyman’s license at least. They’ll have several years of experience under their belt, and will have done a full apprenticeship under a master electrician. But in staging, an electrician is just someone who plugs lights in.

Here’s a harsh reminder that Trump is farther ahead in the polls than he was with Hillary at this same point in the election. The polls showed a landslide win for Hillary by this point, but that obviously didn’t happen. Now the polls show a much closer race for Kamala, which means (if the same thing happens again) then Trump has a very real shot at winning again.

Though to be fair, it looks like Kamala has learned from Hillary, and avoided the “we’ve got this, no problem, don’t even worry about it” attitude that Hillary had early on in the race. Hillary wanted to exude an air of confidence early on, like she had been working towards the presidential race for decades. That ended up being her downfall, because it meant a lot of democrats just fucking stayed home. Because if the person is saying not to worry about it, why do I need to bother voting? The issue is that when every person told themselves that same thing, it meant Hillary lost a lot of votes due to apathy. If you go back and look at her campaign, there was a very drastic shift in Hillary’s messaging a month or two before Election Day, when her team realized that democrat voters had become apathetic. It suddenly shifted from “we’ve got this” to “oh holy fuck please fucking please vote

That’s likely why they said “while you still can”, but yeah.

Also because several ballot drop boxes in liberal areas have been set on fire.

Comment linked for example, and I’ll attach a screenshot below. Having an embedded link following an image seems to append the image’s instance to the start of the embedded link. The link is a 12ft.io link, but Voyager is automatically appending “lemmy.world” to the start of the link.

Could also potentially be an issue with 12ft.io links specifically, but I have seen it a few times with other links too.

I’ve been having an intermittent issue (usually every day or two) where my default view keeps getting reverted to “Large” instead of “Compact”. I haven’t been able to figure out any particular pattern to it thus far, but wanted to see if anyone has had similar issues. It typically happens when opening the app for the first time in a while, but has actually happened two or three times today.

Is there maybe a gesture I’m accidentally triggering when I close the app?

The next generation of script kiddies is going to be iPad babies. It’ll be interesting to see, since the majority can’t use anything in tech unless it’s an app.

We built computer labs in schools, to teach kids how to use computers. Then we decided computers are ubiquitous enough that we didn’t need computer labs anymore. And now we have an entire generation that doesn’t know how to use computers, because they use their phones and tablets for everything instead.

I feel like we’re regressing back to the Netscape Navigator/Internet Explorer browser war days, when browsers were openly and intentionally breaking functionality on competing sites.

This is him attempting to call the judge’s bluff. Following the order, he also posted calling the judge biased. He’s exploring to see if the judge will let him get away with it. He’ll slowly ramp up the posts until the judge tells him to cut it out again, and then he’ll know where the line is. At that point, he’ll simply toe the line and cry “but it wasn’t a problem before” if she tries to cut down on it later.

He believes the judge is afraid to hold him in contempt, and thus far he has been correct. But this is a direct violation of the judge’s order, and the judge shouldn’t let it slide. If she treats this with leniency, he’ll only take it as tacit approval and continue getting more inflammatory. The only reason I can see for the judge allowing it to continue is to give him more rope to hang himself with. One violation of the order is bad, but if she lets it continue and he racks up a bunch of evidence, she may have better justification to hold him and expedite the trial.
