Holy f that site is cancer with its ads.

I can eat sushi, pizza, samosas, kebab (kabobs, döner or shawarmas depending on your frame of reference), gyoza/pot stickers/tortellone/pasteczki (or whatever), noodles/ramen/spaghetti, knödeln/kroppkakor and so on and so on. Leaving lots of cultures unsaid.

I can enjoy music, cringy cultural movies (animated and not), fun cirque sessions (even without animals being endangered), go to festivals for various cultures, enjoin then in our cultures of scouting, mountaineering, hiking and share my love of enjoying nature.

I can drive electric cars, communicate on Internet forums, keep in touch with new friends as well as loved ones across the world.

I would be in a much poorer world without you all.

This picture is so old that image searches turned up even worse resolutions than the one I had on my computer.

The thought struck me that I enjoy hearing seagulls squawking when I am on vacation abroad, preferably close to the sea with a fresh breeze when you open the windows… I can fall asleep to that.

But I absolutely loathe the sound of seagulls that are nesting on house roofs near my home, far from the sea. They are fighting with other birds all the time and won’t stop squawking all night which makes it hard to sleep at times.

So when I am abroad, seagulls are fine. When I’m at home, seagulls are a pest.

Was cleaning up in my picture archive and came across this one. Had to do a reverse image search, as I had completely forgotten what the subject was about. Then I found some relevant articles, here's one:

An 8.9 magnitude earthquake hit Japan on March 11, 2011, and this picture was so orderly and serene compared to the other ones from the disaster. Which is probably why I decided to save it.

I just had that comment the other day from a recruiter who "dug into" my socials with the help of "expert tools". She said "Aww... you seem really nice to everyone!" (eller "Faaaan... du framstår som så trevlig mot allt och alla!") after browsing all my non-anonymous social posts and seeing which Facebook groups I've participated in. I had just about deleted my Meta accounts before I realized I needed to have some kind of semblance of "social posting", as my LinkedIn and such were pretty meager. The recruiting company unfortunately seems to prove that I need to have a social media trail in order to be employable in my field of expertise. Which has literally nothing to do with social media.

Supposedly melatonin-infused (among other things) patches, sold on Amazon. If I were to fall asleep at the office, I sure wouldn't need any help with that. In the car though... scratches head

Some spoons [OC] (lemmy.world)
submitted 1 month ago by Regna@lemmy.world to c/pics@lemmy.world

Probably one of the least interesting posts I've ever made...

Some spoons from a cutlery set, a series called “Rosen” from a department store, Åhléns, in Sweden. It’s from the 1970’s, and was produced up until the early 2000’s.

Left to right:

  • Mocca spoon
  • Coffe spoon
  • Tea spoon
  • Dessert spoon
  • Latte spoon
  • Compot/drink spoon
  • Tablespoon
  • Serving spoon

They all get used on a daily or weekly basis.

At least they had compassionate nurses…

Painted into a corner, the Nusslocks were forced to drive to a nearby facility that was not bound by religious restriction — but not before a nurse at Providence handed them a bucket and some towels “in case something happens in the car.”

The article was very well written. Unfortunately, 90% of the people I’d forward it to would be TLDR…

Lost and found (lemmy.world)

Found this on the sidewalk yesterday. Probably (tastefully) arranged by someone, but as it’s late summer in the middle of a heat wave it stood out.

Cows are big, strong and heavy, and docile dogs can also kill. Any kind of caution around things large or feisty enough to kill you is healthy.

This is good. Scouting (in developed countries) in Europe is one and same for boys, nonbinaries and girls, mainly non-theistic (apart from the obvious theistic groups) and focused on making sure health, hygiene, happiness and life skills are taught and practiced. Girls, nonbinaries and boys coexist, do the same tasks, chores and sleep in the same tents.

Looks like one of the closed down malls in Playa del Ingles on Gran Canaria. Several of the older ones relied on passive cooling by creating underground sections to escape the heat without AC. Mall that closed the underground parts during COVID

And worse than that, the article states:

Mrs Scott was unable to free herself and, as Cliff drove away, she was dragged under the Go North East vehicle and remained pinned under its rear wheels for almost an hour.

As I commented in another thread. From the article: Meta’s supplemental privacy policy states, “You may deactivate your Threads profile at any time, but your Threads profile can only be deleted by deleting your Instagram account.”

I interpret it as that you can't delete your Threads profile, unless you delete your Instagram account. So it's not as if you try to delete your Threads account and oopsie your Insta is gone as well... same, but still different.
