This is just one guy saying this. There's no judge or government ordering a recall.

It's clickbait.

There will be a new announcement soon to clarify.

~~Communities should not be overly moderated in order to enforce a specific narrative. Respectful disagreement should be allowed in a smaller proportion to the established narrative.~~

~~Humans are naturally inclined to believe a single narrative when they're only presented with a single narrative. That's the basis of how fiction works. You can't tell someone a story if they're questioning every paragraph. However, a well placed sentence questioning that narrative gives the reader the option to chose. They're no longer in a story being told by one author, and they're free to choose the narrative that makes sense to them, even if one narrative is being pushed much more heavily than the other.~~

~~Unfortunately, some malicious actors are hijacking this natural tendency to be invested in fiction, and they're using it to create absurd, cult-like trends in non-fiction. They're using this for various nefarious ends, to turn us against each other, to generate profit, and to affect politics both domestically and internationally.~~

~~In a fully anonymous social media platform, we can't counter this fully. But we can prune some of the most egregious echo chambers.~~

~~We're aware that this policy is going to be subjective. It won't be popular in all instances. We're going to allow some "flat earth" comments. We're going to force some moderators to accept some "flat earth" comments. The point of this is that you should be able to counter those comments with words, and not need moderation/admin tools to do so. One sentence that doesn't jive with the overall narrative should be easily countered or ignored~~.

~~It's harder to just dismiss that comment if it's interrupting your fictional story that's pretending to be real. "The moon is upside down in Australia" does a whole lot more damage to the flat earth argument than "Nobody has crossed the ice wall" does to the truth. The purpose of allowing both of these is to help everyone get a little closer to reality and avoid incubating extreme cult-like behavior online.~~

~~A user should be able to (respectfully, infrequently) post/comment about a study showing marijuana is a gateway drug to !marijuana without moderation tools being used to censor that content.~~

~~Of course this isn't about marijuana. There's a small handful of self-selected moderators who are very transparently looking to push their particular narrative. And they don't want to allow discussion. They want to function as propaganda and an incubator. Our goal is to allow a few pinholes of light into the Truman show they wish to create. When those users' pinholes are systematically shut down, we as admins can directly fix the issue.~~

~~We don't expect this policy to be perfect. Admins are not aware of everything that happens on our instances and don't expect to be. This is a tool that allows us to trim the most extreme of our communities and guide them to something more reasonable. This policy is the board that we point to when we see something obscene on !yepowertrippinbastards@lemmy.dbzer0.com so that we can actually do something about it without being too authoritarian ourselves. We want to enable our users to counter the absolute BS, and be able to step in when self-selected moderators silence those reasonable people.~~

~~Some communities will receive an immediate notice with a link to this new policy. The most egregious communities will comply, or their moderators will be removed from those communities.~~

~~Moderators, if someone is responding to many root comments in every thread, that's not "in a smaller proportion" and you're free to do what you like about that. If their "counter" narrative posts are making up half of the posts to your community, you're free to address that. If they're belligerent or rude, of course you know what to do. If they're just saying something you don't like, respectfully, and they're not spamming it, use your words instead of your moderation abilities.~~

President Joe Biden will move Monday to block all future oil and gas drilling across more than 625 million acres of federal waters — equivalent to nearly a quarter of the total land area of the United States, according to two people briefed on the decision who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the announcement is not yet public.

The action underscores how Biden is racing to cement his legacy on climate change and conservation in his last weeks in office. President-elect Donald Trump, who has described his energy policy as “drill, baby, drill,” is likely to work with congressional Republicans to challenge the decision.

Biden will issue two memorandums that prohibit future federal oil and gas leasing across large swaths of the Atlantic Ocean, the Pacific Ocean, the eastern Gulf of Mexico and the Northern Bering Sea in Alaska, the two people said. The oil and gas industry has long prized the eastern Gulf of Mexico in particular, viewing the area as a key part of its offshore production plans.

...

Karoline Leavitt, a spokeswoman for the Trump transition team, said in an email: “This is a disgraceful decision designed to exact political revenge on the American people who gave President Trump a mandate to increase drilling and lower gas prices. Rest assured, Joe Biden will fail, and we will drill, baby, drill.”

The move could have the biggest impact in the Gulf of Mexico, which accounts for about 14 percent of the country’s crude oil production, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. Industry operations there focus on a small sliver of federal waters off Louisiana’s coast.

!gaming or !gaming@lemmy.world or, as a last resort, !gaming@lemmy.world

Feel free to comment here on this redirect. We're open to changing this. As of now, this community doesn't have an active moderator and seems a bit redundant.

There's a thousand little unique skills, and they're all important. Some of them include communicating with your team and managing team morale.

Additionally you get matched up with 4 people who roughly have the same sum of skills, which almost certainly means a completely different makeup of skills

So you notice your teammates screwing up all the things you're better at, and you naturally overlook your teammates skills that don't look like your own.

This basically manifests as road rage where the driver doesn't realize he is the traffic. It creates a situation where nearly all your teammates look like idiots compared to what you look for. Because you're not looking at ALL the things.

Also it wasn't a "unity gesture". It was a funny moment for the people in the room and/or was intended to make the Trump convert more comfortable.

Either way, it was absolutely fine in context. The only concern is how it could be taken out of context, and fuck that. I'm tired of walking a tightrope worrying about what Fox News might say.

If it was a "unity gesture", it was for that one guy. It wasn't for the Fox News audience.

This is why you brush them.

I'm kidding, it doesn't matter. He probably brushed the cat an hour before this. Somehow they have infinite hair.

You think we're gonna fight corporations as individuals if we strangle government?

No. Government is our protection from those who would want to consolidate power, especially corporations. I understand that the government often fails at that protection, but it's still a hell of a lot better than being completely defenseless.

The whole point of the founding fathers was to spread power and attempt to keep it spread. They wanted to avoid both the abuses of monarchy and the eventual decapitation of leadership (seeing as how that'd be their heads).

It's possible it was stress from the litigation. In fact, if you don't specify whose stress, I'd almost guarantee it.

The biggest thing is to be aware of how much things should cost, and just refuse to buy them if they're gouging.

Can I afford $13 for a case of Coca-Cola? Sure, I absolutely can. I can afford $24 a case. I'm just not willing to pay that. That same case was $7 in 2019. You can't tell me their costs have doubled.

And even if I believed their costs doubled (and I don't), that doesn't mean their prices have to double. They're not entitled to growing percentage profit on a larger number. Just because they made 20% on that $7 case doesn't mean they deserve 20% on that $13 case. 20% of $7 is $1.40. They could absolutely take $2 profit on $10 and be happy with it. But they won't. Because people don't pay attention and they can get away with it.

There are enough barriers to entry and cooperation among would-be competitors that they can charge basically whatever the duck they choose.

is best known for conducting hidden camera stings that have embarrassed news outlets, labor organizations and Democratic politicians.

What the fuck? No.

Project Veritas is best known for heavy editing to create a false narrative of their choosing. They're best known for getting a voter registration org shut down under false pretenses. (Turning in voter registration paperwork with false names. They're legally required to submit ALL voter registrations and not allowed to vet the registrations or otherwise pick and choose. Obviously Veritas framed that differently.)

They're best known for submitting false stories to news organizations (NYT, WaPo), and getting shut down when those newspapers attempt to vet their sources.

They're absolutely not known for legitimate "stings", and giving them that credit is insulting.

Because changing the engine in an existing project is a huge pita that requires many, many hours and possibly in some cases a full rewrite.

This also applies to games that would be released in 2023 or 2024.

Nobody should be considering Unity for a new project, but it's understandable to make either decision for many existing projects.

Ripping out the engine of your game isn't a trivial thing.
