I have a question. What if it's not just at a parenting level. What if it's also at a school in level? Because I think at least partially there is a disconnect between media and internet literacy and people of all ages including children and parents.

I think we're going to need such skills going forward and that there exist places in the world where students are being taught such things and are benefiting from them significantly.

Yet the immediate knee jerk reactions seem to be blame the parents and blame the companies that facilitate the access to the content.

It doesn't have to be a parents by themselves against the world system. But it also can't just be a "companies protecting the children" system because that's not what companies do or are for? The need to maintain a profit margin flies directly in the face of the aim to hold companies responsible and the laws seem to be intent on capping the monetary consequences of a breach of the law.

I do feel that the least a parent should be required to do before complaining to a governing body that they find someone else is "harming" their child is to show that they have done their due diligence to protect said child. We punish parents for willful negligence and child endangerment all the time. I don't understand why this is different but I also wonder if there are other options for educating both children and adults that could help the situation significantly.

It can't send screen shots if it doesn't connect to the internet. I own an LG TV and it's never been connected to a network.

For those of you who need it:

  1. Press the Settings button on your remote (the gear icon).

  2. When the side menu pops up, select Settings.

  3. Choose the General option.

  4. Scroll down and select System.

5, Select Additional Settings.

  1. Toggle Live Plus off.

"According to the research published by Hackmosphere, the technique works by avoiding the conventional execution path where applications call Windows API functions through libraries like kernel32.dll, which then forwards requests to ntdll.dll before making the actual system call to the kernel."

This is misinformation. They added the login requirement for their Generative AI and the actual notepad doesn't require a login. But I guess we're ragebaiting today.

Sweeping Cyber Security Order (www.theregister.com)

The sweeping directive, signed Thursday, covers a range of topics including securing federal communications networks against foreign snoops, issuing tougher sanctions for ransomware gangs, requiring software providers to develop more secure products, and using AI to boost America's cyber defense capabilities, among others.

What the fuck. How is this not animal cruelty?

They aren't protecting you. They are protecting themselves from what you may give their enemies. Don't think just because the federal government is doing something "for the people" that nominally it's not about the government itself. National security is literally the government protecting itself by protecting its citizens.

Two car lengths on the highway is not enough car lengths to make a meaningful difference in the event of a crash or giving you time to react to an emergency situation up ahead.

That being said, I respect that you leave any car lengths at all and it's probably better than nothing. Especially since other drivers see any more than that as a challenge to enter that gap. Which is dangerous as shit and they are wrong but won't learn even after they wreck doing it.

So, the EU banned these trucks because they present a danger to pedestrians, and someone modded one with rubberized bumpers to get it registered. That's it. That's the story.

"The uBlock Origin Lite add-on was also accused of collecting user data and running afoul of privacy concerns, which is one of the big reasons why people switch over to the Firefox browser in the first place. Hill [the developer] responded: “It takes only a few seconds for anyone who has even basic understanding of JavaScript to see the raised issues make no sense.”"

Twitter is still influencing the rest of the web (look at its influence on reddit since Musk bought Twitter, and Spez started wanting to live in his skin). I don't think we can just take the good without the bad and assume a net positive.

Part of the reason I am not advocating for or against the extension or the source. People can judge for themselves. I thought it was funny (not a great idea but definitely an interesting implementation). For the record I use both unlock origin and Firefox, and I also run a pihole at home. I'm just putting out there that it exists.

I said it was novel. I didn't say it was good.

Instead of blocking them, this extension speeds them up to x16 and also mutes the ad. Experiencing a 30 second ad in 2 seconds is pretty funny. And it works on Edge and Chrome.

No offense but this is kind of what happens in real life too. Nazi shows up to local bar. Barman or owner doesn't throw them out. Eventually they invite their friends. It winds up being known a Nazi bar. People who don't want to associate with Nazis no longer visit the bar. This is why intolerance of the intolerant is a thing.
