As someone just starting their journey into privacy-focused, open-source software, I'd love to hear what apps the community recommends.

I'm particularly interested in:

  • What messaging apps you use instead of WhatsApp/Messenger
  • Alternatives to Google services (email, calendar, cloud storage)
  • Social media alternatives that respect privacy
  • Browsers
  • Password managers worth using
  • Any other productivity apps you’d recommend me to use

I'm using Apple devices (I know, I know), so apps that work well in this ecosystem would be ideal. Which ones have you found perform exceptionally well?

What was your experience transitioning away from corporate services? Any pitfalls to avoid or strategies that made the switch easier?

Thank you for the heads up, I just edited it. It took me a second since Memmy didn’t let me edit the title, had to login via the web page for that. I’m still new to the fediverse.

I understand how you feel. I was diagnosed with a condition six months before completing college, and things started to improve significantly once I began taking the right medication and learned helpful techniques like the Pomodoro method.

I used to believe I was dumb compared to my classmates, as they seemed to effortlessly understand the course material while I struggled. This led to feelings of inadequacy and low self-esteem.

However, realizing that my brain works differently has been a healing experience. I now understand that there's nothing inherently wrong with me; I simply need to approach things in a different way to succeed.
