Hi everyone,

I’m using Fedora Linux 43 with GNOME 49. By default, GNOME shows file icons based on the file type, not the application that opens them.

What I’d like to achieve is for file icons to show the icon of the program that is set as the default to open the file—similar to how it works in Windows.

For example, in my screenshot, I have three files that are all opened by the same program by default (VSCodium in this case), but each one has a different icon based on its file type. I’d like them all to show the icon of the program instead.

Is there a way to show file icons based on the default app?

Thanks in advance!

My disk is encrypted with LUKS and I wanted to make it auto-unlock using TPM.

I can't enter UEFI as I have fastboot enabled.

Could anyone help me please? 🫡

SOLVED

Hey everyone!

The suspend feature has never worked on my system, so I always turned it off in the settings. But now, with the electricity prices going up in my country (we have the most expensive electricity in Europe, lol), I figured it’s a good time to tackle this.

When the system tries to go into sleep mode, it just wakes up right away, and the monitors don’t show anything (no signal). I’ve got a backlit keyboard and an RGB mouse, but they don’t light up during this, and the caps lock key doesn’t respond when I press it.

I’m on kernel 6.12.7 and I updated the BIOS a few days ago, but the problem is still there.

My hardware:

  • CPU: Ryzen 5 5600
  • MOBO: GIGABYTE B550 GAMING X V2 (rev. 1.3)
  • GPU: RX 6700 XT
  • PSU: SilentiumPC Supremo M2 (600W I guess?)
  • CASE: be quiet! Pure Base DX500

If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this, I would really appreciate your help!

Is it about popularity? The publisher of the game? Or maybe the quality?

Hi I wanted to know if anyone here is using Standard Notes (https://standardnotes.com/) as their daily driver for taking notes.

Is it fully open source (the server and the client)? How well does it work for note-taking?

"The reason is a combination of Google making Play publishing something between hard and impossible and no active maintenance. The app saw no significant development for a long time and without Play releases I do no longer see enough benefit and/or have enough motivation to keep up the ongoing maintenance an app requires even without doing much, if any, changes."

Hi, I am looking for a self hosted calendar where I can add and edit events and then embed it on my public website for everyone to see.

I ask completely seriously.

As far as I know, the whole project is open source and is not as invasive as Xitter

I have never drank alcohol, despite persuasion from friends. I consider it unhealthy. Chemically, it's a poison, and a "hangover" is the process of removing the poison.

Fortunately, it's actually mine, cuz I use Fedora with Gnome, which doesn't do these magic tricks 😁

Imagine some guy working at InternetArchive replacing that file with anything else.

For example, the JS code redirecting the user to pornhub 😂

Just use Firefox. Or LibreWolf if you want a pre-hardened Firefox. Remember to install uBlock Origin.

That's because of the Unix philosophy: Write programs that do one thing and do it well. Write programs to work together. Write programs to handle text streams, because that is a universal interface.

or installing any OS you want without voiding the warranty? I mean when you buy a computer, no one cares if you install Windows or Linux. So why do smartphone manufacturers care?
