Yikes
"Family wants the best for you, listen to us."
Me too, I created 3 communities to help onboard new members, haven't gotten the time to upload a logo yet.
3-4 drinks a year is nothing, I have alcohol intolerance (stomach cancer risks) and I can probably drink that.
Imagine hundreds of Reddit sites with hundreds of communities (subreddits) each, that's the fediverse (federated servers).
They are called federated servers/instances because they are connected, their uses can interact (vote and comment) between each other.
For example, you are @djgucci@ttrpg.network commenting on the RPGMemes community on the ttrpg.network, but I'm from the lemmy.world instance commenting on this community. This also means I can have a RPGMemes community back on my instance.
The big difference between Meta and the Dutch government, is that the dutch government's aim is not to compete and "destroy" other instances like lemmy.world/etc. Their instance is sort of their official digital megaphone.
I feel this is the right move since /r/Android is promoting lemdro.id, this move also takes a big load off of lemmy.world.
This is what I switched to after the Lastpass debacle.
A pair of good boots will outlast 4 pairs of sneakers.
This is important to note, we're not the customers nor the product for now.
Instances need to be sustainable as to not look for other potential types of funding.
From the looks of it, seems like the people who don't care about the API are the ones left behind, makes me think these are the type of people who don't contribute; and sooner or later they'll realize that.
This is how we get Terminators, who would've thought?
