For the past few weeks I've been building my own Fork of Firefox with Fediverse integration. After sharing my build on Lemmy several people asked if it were possible to just have the Lemmy Discussion extension as a stand alone, so here it is: https://codeberg.org/rozodru/LemmyBridge

Note: this is unverified, it's been submitted for verification with Mozilla.

What this extension does is if you're on a news site, blog, video, whatever and it detects that said site has been posted on Lemmy it will find the various discussions and link you directly to them. You can add whatever instances you like.

It's still early development but works well. This is a hobby project of mine so I'll work on it whenever I have the time to do so, Just wanted to share.

Not sure if this the appropriate place for it but the FOSS communities seemed dead.

This is Bridge - a privacy focused, Firefox AI disabled, Fediverse integrated browser. It has vim navigation via Tridactyl, Bitwarden integration, as well as Ublock integration.

It has an old Firefox RSS feature where you can scan a site for RSS feeds and it will add them to the RSS feed reader.

But the highlight of this is the Mastodon and Lemmy integration. you can have your Mastodon feed displayed in the sidebar on the browser which will give you access to your home, local, and fediverse feeds. you can post, reply, boost, and favourite posts.

The Lemmy extension allows you to see and link directly to lemmy discussions on whatever instance you like (multiple even) if you're on a site/news article/blog post/whatever. If the extension sees that this has been posted on Lemmy, it will provide you with a direct link to whatever discussions it finds based on the current URL you're on.

This has been a hobby project of mine for a bit now, It's very slow development as I have a job and can't dedicate all the time in the world to this. I wanted to originally build a browser from scratch but realized that would probably take me years so I settled with a fork of firefox.

Currently I believe it only works on Linux and is in a very early alpha. It hasn't crashed on me yet but visually is a bit rough around the edges.

I just wanted to share this little hobby project I've been working on. Thanks!

UPDATE Since I already got a lot of feedback and more people than anything else wanted the Lemmy Extension as a stand alone extension...I delivered.

You were all correct, the Lemmy Add-on is a bigger deal than the browser. Again this was just a hobby project of mine as I've never played around with firefox forks before or extensions/addons for that matter so this is my first time.

Regardless, here it is: https://codeberg.org/rozodru/LemmyBridge

NOTE: I have submitted it to Mozilla so it is NOT VERIFIED as of right now, if you want to use it, use it at your own discretion. If it breaks something in whatever fork of firefox you're using then I take no responsibility.

Again thanks for all the support, appreciate it.

I found that Wayland had a serious lack of what I liked, which is manual tiling. Sure there is Cagebreak but it doesn't support layer shell so no panels, notifications, or even wallpaper. Forked from Cagebreak and inspired by both Cagebreak and Herbstluftwm I wanted to have a frame based manual tiler WITH layer shell, xwayland, relative pointer and pointer constraint support thus NEDM.

It's by no means in a daily driver state. heres a video of it in action: http://andmc.ca/mov/nedm.mp4

I'm a huge CLI/TUI user. if I can find something and run it via the terminal, i'll opt for the germinal over a GUI every time. With Mastodon I noticed there were only a couple options and one of which was pretty much orphaned so I decided to build my own.

It's not done, still adding features, but the prime basic functionality is there. you can post, you can reply, you can search, look at peoples profiles, open images and links. you have options for home, local, and fedi timelines. you can view threads.

just wanted to share https://codeberg.org/rozodru/mastui

edit: I've moved to codeberg so all updates will be there now.

yup they did this a LONG time ago with porn sites and DVD sales. I used to work in that industry as a web developer in the early 00s. Third party billers specifically set up for the porn industry thrived because of this.

there were many silly rules like you said, no fisting, at most two fingers in the asshole, Incest was "OK" as long as it was "step-" whatever BUT you could get away with it if you laid the ground work initially and say "step-mom" or whatever and then later on just say "mom". Step-Dad was...hit or miss if you could get away with it. Scat was a no go BUT piss was ok IF it was from Europe, sorry US folks, you're not allowed to piss on each other and film it in the good ol United States according to Visa and Mastercard. Finally some stuff like gang bangs or "abuse" porn was fine AS LONG as the girl at the end of the video has a mini interview claiming what a great time she had while covered in jizz. Visa and Mastercard needed to ensure this lady enjoyed herself.

fucking really dumb rules and I would have LOVED to be a fly in the room when Visa and Mastercard lawyers came up with these things.

working where exactly? working on a farm that will pay you minimum wage, if that? oh OH I know working in the tech sector where it's now and has been for the past couple years an absolute nightmare to find a job in.

There are NO jobs out there that will pay for the current cost of living and the ones that COULD aren't hiring, and if anything, are laying people off. And yeah, these unemployed young men are TOTALLY playing videogames that now cost $80 a pop paid via a job they don't have.

My dad can write DOS commands better than most people my age can and I work in Tech. beyond that? he's clueless. Younger generations can either type with their thumbs or their index fingers and know absolutely nothing about how things work. If it's an app they can open on their phones or tablet devices then perfect, they're all over it. Beyond that? no way.

People my age and from my generation can type well, can figure things out and fix issues on computers, and know our way around tech. Why? cause we were raised in an age where things were essentially "kicking off". I was taught typing in high school. Beyond that most of us used AIM, ICQ, MSN Messenger, mIRC, etc so if we weren't taught it in high school we learned it that way.

We learned html, php, javascript, etc via Geocities, setting up PHP messageboards, hell even just customizing our Myspace page. younger generations don't have anything like that so they don't know it. We learned it in our free time to customize our online experience. We had daily consistent shows like The ScreenSavers or Call for Help to teach us how to use Windows or even introduce us to Linux. I learned to build my first PC thanks to Leo Laporte and Patrick Norton. countless magazines and books to pick up to read how to do stuff. And in those days if you wanted to game on PC you pretty much had to build your own PC. No one made prebuilt custom gaming pcs. So you had to learn that stuff.

Today things are all prebuilt for you. gaming pcs, phones and tablet apps, etc. People today just want things to "just work" and if there's anything needed beyond opening an app and logining in then they're not interested. Finding and signing up for instances? forget it.

Honestly Valve needs to have a policy for this. If a game that once worked on Steamdeck and now no longer works after publisher intervention then refunds need to be issued. I have BF2042, BFV and BF1 and 1 was the LAST one I could still play on Linux. Now I have 3 digital paperweights that I can't play anymore. I want my money back.

I remember renting Phalanx just because of the box. like "why's this old man playing the banjo?" then you look at the back and it's a friggin space shooter. I had to rent it.

it's total bullshit. For example if you use ublock origin every now and again sure you might get ads that pop up, but AT MOST that lasts for a day, generally it'll last a couple hours as the team at ublock update their lists to block ads again. There's no need, literally zero need, to remove it from your extensions. and at worst, like I got yesterday, you'll just see a black screen that buffers for a bit before the video plays. the ad is still blocked.

you can also circumvent most of this if you use freetube. OR if you just want music the youtube-dl script on linux. I also ditched spotify for youtube-dl as I can also download entire playlists with it.

[-] rozodru@lemmy.world 38 points 1 year ago

This was already debunked awhile ago. it's bullshit. no restaurant, regardless of how poorly they're doing, is going to go through all this work to maybe, just mabye, get $50 out of them.

This is just like "what not to do in IT/dev/tech 101" right here. Every since I've been in the industry for literally decades at this point I was always told, even when in school, "Never test in production, never roll anything out to production on a Friday, if you're unsure have someone senior code review" of which, Crowdstrike, failed to do all of the above. Even the most junior of junior devs should know better. So the fact that this update was allowed go through...I mean blame the juniors, the seniors, the PM's, the CTO's, everyone. If your shit is so critical that a couple bad lines of poorly written code (which apparently is what it was) can cripple the majority of the world....yeah crowdstrike is done.

I work with the homeless. the main misconception is that they're all either addicts or mentally ill. This is far, far, from true. The ones you see daily, chances are they are addicts or mentally ill but the "hidden" homeless vastly out weighs the ones you see on the streets.

Most have jobs or are actively looking for work. A lot are escaping domestic abuse or are LGBTQ+ and escaping hostile home environments. There are A LOT of families and elderly people who simply can't afford to keep a roof over their heads.

think you Americans are beyond a peaceful protest at this point, right now you need a revolution. you are quite literally 4 months away from a potential dictatorship.
