It is intentionally facing different directions since it's a different type of cutlery! But I can see how it might bother you ;)
It's great, seriously. We have been dealing with a chaotic drawer for a year, I bought the wooden strip a year ago too but never had the time and energy to actually make this 🙈
Being able to make it perfectly fit our cutlery and drawer is just the cherry on top. 😌
I can see that it would be an issue if your neighbours are toxic people, unfortunately technology can't solve that. Is there something that could have remedied this or do you see this as a matter of luck?
On some level yes, but ultimately the worst cases of poorly invested time make me learn to spend my time better, so it wasn't entirely wasted - I like to think of it as a learning experience.
What I am more concerned about is subtle time wasting, sprinkled all throughout daily life in the form of various technologies and media mainly. It's so hard to get a feeling for how much time you are really spending there and it's even harder to escape it.
Unless you don't know that ^ means Ctrl 🥲
There are many good replacements, you just need to stop using Github :)
Some examples: Forgejo/Gitea (self-host or hosted eg. codeberg.de), Gitlab (self-host or hosted), Sourcehut (self-host or hosted eg. sr.ht)
I would not recommend addictive and harmful habits like smoking tobacco/pot and drinking as a coping mechanism, it can go real bad and can make it harder to get out of that hole again.
C is old, ubiquitous and still does not have a good replacement for its low-level cross-platform usecases, so I'll believe it when I see it 😄
Why not go even further? Just switch off the pesky computer entirely. No noise, not even coil whine.
I have to agree that official efforts are insufficient both in speed and scale, so I understand the need for civil society rewildering efforts regardless of law. However I'd like to hear from scientists in the field what should and shouldn't be done, because I am sure that misguided efforts can be destructive too.
Ideally there should be a science-backed civil society guerilla force for rewilding to take the right necessary steps at a time where political action is too motivated by other motives, like protecting various lobbies and financial interests or simply their own asses.
And I am quite fed up with farmers concerns given the huge environmentally destructive force that monoculture and animal farming are to our nature. If our current farming practices are incompatible with wildlife existing, then our farming practices need to change instead of wildlife being pushed to extinction.
Thank you for sharing this article, it was an interesting read. I was not so aware of the moral dilemma of declaring a species extinct and it is bizzare to me that we need to have an endangered species to stop destroying a habitat. Why not just protect nature for nature's sake? Why is it fine to completely erase an island's forests just because we think its resident endangered bird is already extinct? It's bizzare to me.
Then perhaps a better phrasing is "may be the only way to feel warm and get to sleep", even if it doesn't actually warm you.
