Curious what others have found when transitioning to a vaporizer. Been a flower bong smoker for 3 ish years and the hockers got to be too much.

Got the arizer xq2 yesterday and have been enjoying the lack of black phlegm but the high is much headdier as opposed to body of the traditional bong.

Vapor sneaks up on you lol, being able to blow it directly in with the fan is nice too. Haven't fucked with the bags yet as it seems a little much. Been treating lungs as the bags with that fan honestly

What were your experiences/thoughts when going to a vape?

I went from joints to a DynaVap which was a marvel of engineering but I didn't like still needing a lighter and I burnt myself on it a few times. Switched to an Arizer Solo which was amazing and really blew my mind, it was the first time I could see how much better vaping was with 0 downsides.

And now I'm on a Volcano Hybrid and oh lord, never take this thing away from me ever. I only ever use the balloons and never had to complain about a difference in high, I like the tube but I feel the balloon is such a calmer experience. You don't have to worry about "losing" anything, or your herb isn't cooking while you take in the vape, you can just enjoy it at your own rythm with your herb resting.

[-] zurchpet@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 month ago

Yes. At home I chill with the Volcano Hybrid and its balloons.

For outside/portable use I have a Mighty+. Wich isn't pretty or cheap. But has almost the same performance as the Volcano in taste.

Steer clear of the Venty as it is a nightmare to clean compared to the Mighty.

[-] hemmes@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Yup. Volcano original for home, Mighty+ when on the go.

I use the premade bags for the Volcano. You really don’t have to think much about it; it’s easy to start a session and the high is the same as a joint. What’s nice is you don’t have to finish the whole thing like you might with a joint. It gives you more control and doesn’t stink.

[-] BertramDitore@lemm.ee 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

The Volcano Hybrid was my daily driver for the last few years, and it’s still one of the best vapes around, but I recently bought a Venty and absolutely love it. I produce the same amount of vapor as a full Hybrid balloon, with less flower. The cleaning really isn’t that bad at all, you just need a toothpick and maybe some alcohol. Though to be fair I didn’t realize how much plant matter would end up in the cooling unit, but once I figured out how it all works it’s super straightforward to keep clean.

Edit: I forgot to mention the two best things about the Venty: the adjustable airflow means at the highest setting it’s basically unrestricted, so it feels the same as pulling on a Volcano balloon, and the other is that it goes from cold to fully heated and ready to vape in less than 20 seconds. It’s wild how fast it heats up.

[-] HotCoffee@lemm.ee 1 points 1 month ago

Really would like to transition, but a volcano is still 300-350 euro in my country. I know it's a premium vape but yeah I would like to use this bad boy atleast a few years.

If any fellow toker can recommend a good cheaper alts, then that would be appreciated.

[-] dumblederp@aussie.zone 2 points 1 month ago

Invest in a ball vape before a volcano. I got a knockoff terp hammer from b2cvape on aliexpress.

[-] Cort@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

I've owned a volcano for over a decade. Aside from the novelty at parties, it doesn't get used. I don't think I've even gotten it out in 4-5 years.

[-] HotCoffee@lemm.ee 0 points 1 month ago

Did you go back to smoking, or a different vape? I know some ppl that only consume through vaping (Volcano) so I still think it's viable, but then again I don't own one.

[-] Duke_Nukem_1990@feddit.org 1 points 1 month ago

So what temperatures are y'all using?

[-] dumblederp@aussie.zone 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I miss combustion bongs so I run hot. 210c on the mighty+, 700f on the ball vape.

[-] burrito@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 month ago

365F on the mighty because my wife doesn't like it higher than that. If it were just me I'd run 392F.

[-] FartsWithAnAccent@fedia.io 0 points 1 month ago

CBD/hemp guy there but this applies to cannabis as well: I stick to below 350F because above that, nasty stuff starts to get released. After that, I use the ABV and resin to make pain killer edibles, drinks, etc. that beat most OTC painkillers and are far safer.

[-] Today@lemmy.world 0 points 1 month ago

What do you like to make? The best edibles I've made were sour candy mouth sprays. Delicious, fun, hits quicker. The worst was an attempt at butter mints. Weirdest was peanut butter cups that accidentally got a sprinkle of cayenne.

[-] FartsWithAnAccent@fedia.io 0 points 1 month ago

Mostly baked goods but I'd like to branch out more into other stuff. Maybe if cannabis gets legalized federally I'll even start with recreational stuff.

Coconut oil seems pretty effective, but butter works too. I use a crock pot to diffuse it.

For stem milk, usually just hot chocolate, mocha, or tea.

[-] Today@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

I usually do an everclear wash, evaporate, decarb, and then just stir in a little coconut oil to make it easier to measure.

Are you in the US? It's legal to buy online in all but a few states. Check out wnc-cbd.com for flower.

[-] zurchpet@lemmy.ml 0 points 1 month ago

I usually go 180, 185, 195, 210 (up to 230 on the Volcano) all °C.

[-] Coreidan@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

At 230 c you might as well put it in a bowl and smoke it because at that temp that is with you’re doing.

[-] FartsWithAnAccent@fedia.io 1 points 1 month ago

I use CBD/CBG (read: hemp) for pain and stress management (it even helped me quit smoking cigarettes): Lately I've been using a Dynavap and a S&B Mighty+ but I've been taking advantage of DHV/TEDs off and on since the turn of the millennium.

I started with a shitty globe, then an MFLB (outdated now), eventually landing on an S&B Mighty+ (easy to use, but overpriced) and Dynavaps (hard to use but after a learning curve, they are excellent inexpensive devices) with a YLL2 induction coil.

If you are looking for a good portable, I'd definitely recommend Arizer (Solo 3 V2 if you want something powerful, Argo if you want something compact), Dynavap (if you don't mind a learning curve, any are good, but if you want something to use with water pipes and whatnot, get a BB3, 6, or 9 or Vong).

If you are looking for good desktops, ball vapes are pretty much the best. There's also the S&B Volcano Hybrid which is pretty good and easy to use, but very very expensive for what it is. I also have an Arizer Vtower (good bang for your buck) and an S&B Plenty (I find it ridiculous, but I think it is more geared for recreational marijuana users in a group who are going to go through a lot of it at once).

You can also use the resin that builds up in the stems as well as the vaped hemp or marijuana to make drinks, food, tinctures, etc. If you're a a THC user, be careful about how much you consume here because stuff like stem milk can be very potent.

Personally, I stick to the non-intoxicating stuff for a few different reasons, but CBD/CBG absolutely kicks the shit out of advil for pain and I no longer need antidepressants for anxiety.

[-] Today@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Cbg is great for migraines. I work with kids with disabilities (lots of lifting and moving) so i feel safer using cbg instead of prescription meds (that make me spacey/clumsy) when I'm at work.

[-] dumblederp@aussie.zone 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

An aliexpress ball vape (b2cvape Store) is better and cheaper than a volcano, I really didn't like the volcano, fwiw I didn't like the arizer tower either.

The mighty+ and crafty are good for portable but they've got a battery that'll eventually die, I'd prefer replaceable 18650s. Even cheap portable vapes seem to do the trick.

Ultimately vapes are the healthier choice. I do miss bongs, they're quick and I get to breathe smoke like a fucking dragon, but smoke does more damage to your lungs, no questions about it.

[-] burrito@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Coming up on 7 years now on my Mighty and I did one battery replacement on it so far which took about an hour of work. I'm very happy with the vapor quality and notice a big difference comparing it against other vapes I've used ( pax 1, pax 2, dynavap m 2017/2022, boundless cf, and a few others). A friend has a Venty and it seems pretty nice too, but I like the flatter form factor of the mighty for better pocket fit.

[-] Witchfire@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

I feel the other way around. I've used the mighty before but I hated it. It's double the size of my pax and seemingly lasts half as long.

[-] umbrella@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 month ago

better lungs for sure

[-] oldfart@lemm.ee 1 points 1 month ago

I'm a lightweight and not a frequent user. My goal in smoking is to get high.

I rarely used my previous vape because it got me barely any effects, at 200°C it sometimes wasted entire chamber of weed for what gave me a mild headache.

So, following the advice in this forum, I got a new one and a grinder. A modern one. A recommended one. TinyMight 2.

Tried it 2 times so far and maybe that's what you mean by "head high", for me it's all the side effects of smoking, but I don't actually get high. Doesn't take the edge off, or make me giggle, or deeply relaxed, or make me think, just hungry and balance was a bit off. And I think I used it correctly, the cloud was mighty both times.

[-] Smokeydope@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Sorry to hear your step back into the vape journey isnt starting off hot. Everyone is different some people are into vapes some prefer to stick with combustion that's why I try to recommend cheaper vapes when people ask so they aren't out hundreds of $ if its not for them.

For me vaping its a creeping high. The more you sesh back to back the more you feel it in the eyes and the relaxation. Instead of one or two bowls sesh it out over an hour and like six bowls to see how it creeps. Setting also matters a lot. I find that walking or basking in sunlight and bird watching in early morning really adds to the meditative relaxing affects compared to sitting in a room.

Theres a general consensus that a low temp vape sesh hits different than high temp One Hit Extraction sessions. Turn your vaporizer up to its highest setting or around 420-430f and see if that hits and different than seshing around 380f. Does your abv look light brown or pitch black? Thats how you know.

I'm hesitant to recommend another vape since your first few havent worked out. If you still interested, maybe try a dynavap next. With a torch or IH you can ride the line between ABV and ash to get the most combustion-like vapor possible without actually smoking. If a back to back OHE sesh with a dynavap tip turning your bud pitch black in one breath is still not doing much for you, I dont think much will. At least you can use it like a fancy combustion dugout. The dynavaps are a big improvement over fake cigarette dugout pipes even if you just want to smoke out of them.

Keep in mind the high you get from smoking is different because of the carcinogens and carbon dioxide inhalation. You can get similar affects holding in your breath and depriving yourself of oxygen. Dry herb vapor evaporates the terps and all the cannabanoid/hash oil in the plant while leaving all the plant matter carbon behind. Do you get similar heady highs from dabbing concentrate too? Its basically the same difference on a micro level.

[-] oldfart@lemm.ee 1 points 1 month ago

I don't have access to fancy stuff like concentrates, so I can't tell you about that. But I had a cookie a few times and that was a proper high, nothing like what I'm getting from vapes, so I doubt it's about the CO₂. I held the vapor in, too, force of habit.

I'll try cranking up the temperature, tinymight can get quite hot so maybe that's the way to go for me. The leftovers were brown so there's still some hope.

Thanks for the long reply!

[-] Witchfire@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

I use a dry herb vape. Pax 3 specifically. Love the damn thing, but it's definitely milder than a joint. Tastes way better though

[-] ObtuseDoorFrame@lemm.ee 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I also just bought a XQ2 and I love it! I switched to vape pens a couple years ago because regular flower was too harsh on my lungs and I couldn't hike up mountains. I'm enjoying dry vaping immensely... it's like rediscovering my love for reefer. So much better than pens and without the pen headaches. The high somehow lasts longer with dry vaping and I don't get headaches. It feels great on my muscles, too.

Are you looking for a portable unit? I bought the XQ2 and the POTV Lobo (planet of the vapes) at the same time. The Lobo has really impressed me so far. It's the only battery unit I've seen that has replaceable batteries, which is huge. The high isn't quite as nice as the XQ2, but it's comparable.

[-] Smokeydope@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

I smoked for over a decade. As a teenager I tried pax and arizer eq but I didn't really understand it. As an adult my first vaporizer was the arizer air max. I got it to substitute a travel dugout. Hated smoking through those fake cigarettes constant butante and pull through scooby snack inhalation.

The air max is a great terp chasing device with nice features but its not powerful and the glass stem filters with four little holes sucks. I just got a steel screen mesh stem from eds this week for 420 been wanting one for over a year.

I really liked the air max and quit smoking soo after, but it always left me feeling like there could be more. Thats when I remembered someone left their old crap in my house when they moved. Two desktop arizer EQs were just waiting to be used.

The desktop EQs were a step up. But I was never really happy with elbow packing, or the huge cyclone/connesuir bowls, or the bags. I just wasnt satisfied with stock EQ experience. Had to buy aftermarket parts from ddave and some vapes balls and some good glass to complete the arizer desktop experience.

I also got into the dynavap stuff. I needed something more powerful than the air max that could OHE. The m+ and induction heater was such a good intro to the dynaverse and since then I got some other Dyna stems to try out.

[-] dwt@feddit.org 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Took me almost 2 years. But I’m so glad I did.

Hardest part was getting rid off the hobby of rolling a joint, and embracing the fact that I actually hated the taste, smell and high of Tabacco/ Nicotine.

Also took me 5 more years to figure out what huge role temperature plays in the resulting high. 🫩

[-] Hylactor@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 month ago

Dynavap are great. It can get a little collector-y though. All the different tips and caps and condensers and model years bla bla bla. It's easy to either get overwhelmed or spend too much and get overly complex. The core benefit though is ironically the simplicity. If you're considering trying out the dynavap world my recommendation is to get a middle of the road model. Don't go too cheap, and don't worry about all the razzle dazzel top tier stuff. Spend about $100 and then just spend time with it and see if you want to get fancier. It's simple, clean, and durable. I moved to a dynavap after being a dedicated joint man. I go through way less weed, the experience is way more pleasant, and my mucous membranes and lungs are way happier. My only complaint is relying on a torch/jet lighter is a bit clumsy. They go through fuel really fast and really eat into the elegant simplicity of the process in general in my opinion. I have an induction heater in the mail, excited to see if it improves the experience at all.

[-] Fingolfinz@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

If I could get one, I’d vape flower all day. Don’t care much for shatter but vaping flower is fucking great. Plus I can make edibles with the spent buds

[-] Itsamelemmy@lemmy.zip 0 points 1 month ago

Started with the extreme q. Liked it, but didn't replace smoking. Bought a solo 2 next. Liked it more, and still take with for vacations, but also didn't stop smoking.

Now I have a ball vape, the screwball. Running through a sky glass lunar bubbler. Haven't smoked since. This thing absolutely replaces my 18" beaker and combustion. I get bigger hits off the same amount of weed compared to combustion, and it tastes so so much better.

[-] Today@lemmy.world 0 points 1 month ago

I started with a pax2. Now i use a dynavap with an induction heater. I like it more then i expected to. Also have a bunch of disposables (secretnature.com) lying around for lazy times, concerts, etc.

How do you like it? I have a YLL2 (love it) and a Wand (it's pretty good but I like the YLL2 better). Apparently the Wand can do dabs too, but I've never seen CBD or CBG dabs anywhere, can't comment on how well it works for that.

[-] Smokeydope@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Industrial hemp farms sells cbd/cbg/cbn isolate powder which is essentially diamonds in crushed up powder form as well as cbd shatter dabs. The wand can do dabs fine but the problem is stock cups and carb it comes with sucks. You need a dynavap or similar herb chamber and vape wool/Japanese cotton to get it working reliably.

[-] FartsWithAnAccent@fedia.io 1 points 1 month ago

I was not aware of that, thanks!

[-] BassTurd@lemmy.world 0 points 1 month ago

I've got a Mighty I got a few years back, and it's great. Smell is way better and it's easier to travel and use without drawing attention. It's certainly better for making your flower stretch longer.

[-] Rando@lemmynsfw.com 0 points 1 month ago

Yep. Love my Mighty+. Loaned my Crafty+ to a friend.

[-] ObtuseDoorFrame@lemm.ee 0 points 1 month ago

I was going to buy the Mighty+, but ended going with the POTV Lobo because it has replaceable batteries. I did a double take when I found out that the Mighty doesn't have replaceable batteries. I assumed a device that goes through batteries this fast just must be replaceable. Capitalism strikes again.

The replacement batteries for the Lobo are $10 so I bought two extra.

[-] BassTurd@lemmy.world 0 points 1 month ago

Replaceable batteries would be nice. I can get probably 6+ sessions at 190°c before needing a charge, but it also has charge pass through, so I can use it while charging. If I had USB C like the Mighty+, I'd be able to to it off with a portable battery pack.

For me, I don't think I've been without power for long enough where it's been I problem, but I have planned poorly before.

[-] FartsWithAnAccent@fedia.io 0 points 1 month ago

If you want hot swappable batteries, check out the Tinymight or Arizer Argo (Davinci IQ has one too, but they are a horrible, horrible company).

You could also try a Dynavap with an induction coil (YLL2 and iSpire Wand are both good, I prefer the YLL2) as those also take 18650s.

[-] WetBeardHairs@lemmy.world 0 points 1 month ago

I've got a tinymight and love it. I haven't used it for a while because gummies are so much easier to use. But I fucking LOVE that first low-temp green hit.

[-] FartsWithAnAccent@fedia.io 2 points 1 month ago

That's what I love about my Dynavaps.
