Every single time I use Spotify, after the first advert it says to enjoy the next 30 minutes ad free. Then after a 2 minute long song, I get 5 minutes of adverts 😑. Every single time

Edit: using mutify now, thank you everyone!

Adverts are poison for the mind.

  • IOS; Sideloading EeveeSpotify.
  • Windows; Specitify.
  • Android; ReVanced.

There’s no reason to waste your time on ads.

[-] CosmicTurtle0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 weeks ago

Last time I checked, uBlock blocked ads on Spotify.

They alao have done very little about the misinformation Joe Rogan continues to spout.

[-] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

I used Spotify once years ago. wanted to listen to the Beatles or Bowie or something.

first song was good. then they started playing Sinatra, then Katy Perry, then someone else.

I removed it just because if I told you to play "X" you play "X".

so glad I still have my 500gb collection of mp3s.

[-] hmmm@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago

Am I the only one who download music now?(11.3 GB - 320K - Around 1600 Songs)

[-] jsomae@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 weeks ago

Amateur. 120 gb myself.

(Seriously though, that's awesome 👍 )

[-] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 1 points 2 weeks ago

I went back to just downloading it. Got a 512gb SD card in my phone with 180GB of music on it and about 40GB of podcasts. Spotify is just for when I want to find new stuff to listen to.

[-] nope@jlai.lu 2 points 2 weeks ago

You could YT music-revanced. Just sayin'

[-] TabbsTheBat@pawb.social 1 points 2 weeks ago

Real x3

Honestly im considering just switching back to piracy

[-] madame_gaymes@programming.dev 0 points 2 weeks ago

I dunno why you left! I've never understood what was good or better than pirating about these streaming services. Everyone says convenience, but I don't think that's the real reason, because ads and service interruptions seem way more inconvenient to me than not having my music.

[-] NOT_RICK@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

What bugs me about the streaming services is songs from my library dropping off the service with no notice

I like Spotify for music discovery (I don't have the time to discover music on my own). $42 CAD per year for premium is worth it for me.

I'm already running an ARR stack, so there would only be about 10 minutes of effort if I ever change my mind and add Lidarr.

[-] madame_gaymes@programming.dev 1 points 2 weeks ago

Start following YT channels like NPR Tiny Desk Concerts and KEXP. You won't have to do the leg work, new music (good and bad) will be in your feed all the time.

Having said that, the hunt is part of the fun for me.

[-] Nouveau_Burnswick@lemmy.world 0 points 2 weeks ago

I get it, it was part of the fun for me.

But now I've got about 60 minutes per day to myself where I am not working or keeping a toddler from killing themselves. I'm using that time to play video games; not hoping I can stumble upon my delicious niche of death/power/trash metal that I'll listen to for 10-15 hours a week

[-] madame_gaymes@programming.dev 1 points 2 weeks ago

Yep, living the dream will do that some times.

I wish there was a more focused metal channel. There probably is, I just don't know about it. If you follow KEXP, Audiotree, and Amoeba Green Room Sessions they do have those kinds of performances from time to time, though.

Spotify kind of sucks. I've been buying music from the musicians (mostly via Bandcamp) for years. Buying one album a month for like $8 means is cheaper than a subscription, and I now have a huge library of music.

[-] shitescalates@midwest.social 1 points 2 weeks ago

It's amazing it became so popular. I got sick of the lack of true shuffle and radio and went back to Pandora. It's so much better than Spotify I can't imagine going back.

[-] GooberEar@lemmy.wtf 1 points 2 weeks ago

That's basically my Pandora experience. They'll have ads where if you click to watch a video, you'll get X amount of time, usually an hour, ad free. There's about a 50% chance the ad will cause the app to crash, but only AFTER the ad finishes playing. And once I start the app up again, it doesn't remember the offer or that I watched the ad. Same thing if I close the app, accidentally or otherwise. If I start it back up, that ad free hour is gone.

[-] beejboytyson@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Use spot tube

[-] HollowNaught@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

I just download my songs using freetube, load then onto my phone, and use a FOSS music player to make my playlists. That way, even when I drive out into areas with spotty connections I get my tunes coming through

[-] 1984@lemmy.today 1 points 2 weeks ago

I tried YouTube today for the first time in years. Its unwatchable. The frog must have been slowly boiling for years to have so many people accept what Youtube is now. Just wow.

I managed to watch about 10 minutes but had about 5 ads during that time, taking up several minutes of my time. It broke my focus and I forgot what the video was about.

Back to Newpipe.

[-] brb@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago

Why are you not using adblock and/or revanced?

[-] 1984@lemmy.today 1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

I was using the official YouTube app since I wanted to use chromecast to get a video up on my tv.

I havent used revanced, seems interesting also. But Newpipe just does what I need so im happy.

Already have network wide adblocking but doesnt stop YouTube ads in their official app.

[-] dubyakay@lemmy.ca 0 points 2 weeks ago

I've actually subscribed to premium. YouTube + YT Music.

[-] 1984@lemmy.today 0 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah I have a few colleagues that did that too. But I dont want to support big tech by being paying user.

[-] AndyMFK@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Ublock origin + sponsor block makes YouTube entirely watchable and you don't have to fund this horrible company

[-] CheeseToastie@lazysoci.al 0 points 2 weeks ago

It infuriates me too, it's an outrageous lie. Bizarrely sometimes it plays for ages with no ads IDKY

[-] MicrowavedTea@infosec.pub 0 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

The free version of Spotify is really not worth it. Even Youtube music gives you a better experience.

[-] Probius@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

I hate that YouTube Music keeps trying to make me waste my bandwidth on videos that have worse audio quality than when it just plays the song. 0/10 smoothbrain design, probably just to sell more video ads.

So stop ducking using the service. How else is it ever going to change?

[-] SplashJackson@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 weeks ago

Also, stop fucking using it

[-] glitchdx@lemmy.world 0 points 2 weeks ago

why don't you have an adblocker? I haven't seen / heard an ad on one of my devices in 15 years.

[-] Zugyuk@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Wait that's a thing in Mobile devices?

[-] glitchdx@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Firefox + ublock origin + sponsor block (for youtube).

i don't use apple products but it works on everything else

[-] Psythik@lemm.ee 1 points 2 weeks ago

Look into NextDNS. It can block ads systemwide on your device.

[-] console@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

If you're on iPhone, SOL or use Spotify web with brave browser (in-built ad blocker).

If you're on Android plenty of APKs that'll disable ads and make you 'premium'

[-] paris@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 2 weeks ago

There's no reason to trust random APKs for stuff like this anymore when Revanced exists to let you build the APK yourself right on your phone with only the patches you want. Highly recommend!

[-] console@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

I prefer my phone with malware, so I know I'm not alone

[-] paris@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 2 weeks ago

I haven't considered this point before. Currently clicking on every sketchy ad I see.

[-] pineapplelover@lemm.ee 1 points 2 weeks ago

I second the other user recommending revanced and also would like to throw in spotx-bash fix for the desktop spotify app ad removal.

Windows version
