Yup. Worked better before google enshittified and ignored search modifiers, anyway. Now it’s “which engine will be the least annoying and return better results?” When going down that rabbit hole.

Kagi, while very expensive, has finally freed me from slop search results.

Worth trying!

I went to Kagi for several months, good service for sure, but set up a self hosted instance of Searxng and obvs prefer that over paying to do essentially the same thing.

[-] F04118F@feddit.nl 1 points 4 days ago

How does the search quality of Searxng compare?

[-] Jakeroxs@sh.itjust.works 2 points 4 days ago

Basically the same as Kagi since it's also just a metasearch engine, select whichever ones to aggregate and go.

just read raw Wikipedia

Now if only I had

  1. the memory capacity to remember it
  2. not the issue of needing a moment to kickstart the memory (I can't remember stuff of the top of my head. But if someone mentions a specific topic I might start info dumping).

You can try doing it like me and just have all the useless knowledge push the actual memories out. Not sure I'd recommend though.

Is there a way to stop it? Lol

I'm constantly in situations where someone needs to know but no one tries, so I take it on and level up.

It's the "doer" classification. Certainly not the best person for the job, but no one else is doing it, so gotta try. Over time, a new skill is built.

Patience and persistence are beneficial traits to have. I don't think they're natural, I think they're forced but become natural-like after repeatedly experiencing their inevitably rewarding outcomes.

This is me. My friends think I’m super smart but really I just can’t help myself if someone says they don’t know how to do something I just go and look up how to do it.

Now I have the unfortunate situation that they just don’t even bother with anything and come to me.

It’s the same when they just say things that are not true and I can’t comprehend not having the desire to actually check.

My friend said if I was a mega Man boss I would be "Do-man" because I'm willing to do the leg work to make shit happen including the basic research!

It means that I have a tremendous catalog of useless facts. They keep the unregulated useful facts in line...

"also I had all of this growing up, and zero reasons to leave the internet connection for most of it"

"how can you not?? All the info's right fucking there! Maybe y'all should stop spending your time online cultivating para-social relationships with human billboards slowly rotting away your brain, and start using the fucking thing as it was intended!"

...sigh. I'm tired of being the weird one for ~~knowing~~ having read about things 😅

You did not have permission to take this picture of me.

Actually this is a public space so there's no reasonable expectation of privacy.

My problem with this power is that I can't even aim the knowledge absorption in a direction of something I remotely need. It always starts with a simple curiosity that leads me down a web of indepth information about a topic I originally wanted to know something about.

I just say I read science articles for pleasure. The non nerds fuck right off, it's even gotten me laid.
