This is just what someone from Chicago living in Florida is like.

Electing a burger pope was certainly a funny move by the Catholic church

Leo is certainly not to be judged by his brother’s rants. To each his own is the American Way.

except like 2 paragraphs up she describes the brother as "very American" while quoting his desire for everyone who isn't like him to be locked up.

maybe the author should clarify which is more accurately described as "the American way":

  • tolerance for everyone
  • wanting to incarcerate everyone who isn't a reactionary asshole

or, maybe it's the lib compromise:

  • tolerance, but only for the reactionary assholes who want to lock everyone else up

Libs love tolerance for the intolerant, it’s like their version of leftist purity politics

It’s good when we disagree so long as we can be civil about it.

Yea, I mean more that they use it as a litmus test. Shit like “Israel has a right to defend itself” and defending “Free Speech” for Nazis

Yeah that’s what I mean, libs love to have fascist opinions around them so long as they have a veneer of civility, a man in a suit saying in a calm unemotional manner “Israel has a right to defend itself” is the ultimate ‘civil’ remark to justify genocide, the adults are in the room. Not like the screaming blue haired freaks advocating for Palestine, blocking traffic shouting “from the river to the sea” - so uncivil.

Exactly! That’s their brain on idealism I guess.

to each his own is the American Way

mfw the phrase to each his own was coined in latin by cicero over 2000 years ago

Totally going off vibes but these views are present in like, what, 1 in every 4 or 5 americans? Still, sucks this ameriburger is the pope's replacement.

Judging by Trump's approval rating and polling of immigration policies, I would think it's closer to 2 in 5 Americans who think similarly to the the Pope's brothe.

Maybe I misheard but I thought that the pope had a pretty traditionalist view of monogamous relationships (i.e. homophobic views influenced by the Bible).

Idk maybe bigotry is just part of the family

What worries me is that "an apple doesn't fall far from the tree".
