I never understood Hollywood's love for taking classical mythologies of humanity and spinning it into the most absurd movies that have literally nothing to do with the original mythology. Thor as a superhero is just one example. It really seems like what should have been just an original character that they slapped the Nordic mythology around for no good reason. Meanwhile now whenever I try to search up Thor, the top results get clogged with Marvel's bullshit instead of his actual millennia old mythology.

Also, I guess it doesn't matter with Thor since no one in modern times actually believe in Norse mythology, but Hollywood is not that picky and have bastardized real religions that people still believe in, namely Indigenous mythology in the Americas and lesser known folk religions in Asia and Africa.

Pretty sure it was marvel comics that did it, and Hollywood has just been turning their materials into movies. There isn't much that the comic book universe won't turn into a hero or villain.
