That's exactly what it is. It's like the republican party's platform of racism has become it's sole defining characteristic that underpins all of it's policy.

I hitchhiked around the southern US for a while in the late ‘80s and, as a small blonde-haired, blue-eyed white girl, you wouldn’t believe what southern white guys were willing to say in front of me. It was appalling.

Ever since trump started gaining popularity, it’s all been very familiar. ‘Oh, you call everyone you don’t like racist’ – no, I call racists racist, and if this offends you, fucking check yourself. It’s not hard to respect people, and it’s not hard to not be a bigot. Just respect people, simple as.

Is it hurting you that people are gay? No. Does it impact your life that someone you’ve not even met is trans? No. So shut the fuck up and mind your own. Lord knows your own house could use some intellectual maintenance. Maybe attend to that before throwing shit at others.

They literally said this was their strategy back in the 80s when they saw the writing on the wall for their incredibly unpopular platform. The platform is now worse, but repugnantcons never talk about it. Just inflammatory racism and divisiveness, the media gobbles it up and gives them free press and sanewashing, and we get dragged deeper into an authoritarian redneck regime as a result. It’s honestly horrifying.

This is how America looks at every situation, like it's a one problem solution. If the only tool you have(or use) is a hammer, everything starts to look like a nail.

I've had enough of these motherfucking fascists in this motherfucking country!

Sooner than later, you're gonna have to do something about this, before it does something about you.

I grew up in deep Republican country and he’s 100% right. These are the same people I saw telling other kids their age they were going to get them deported and that they’re not allowed to come to school. They’re the same people that were leaving KKK graffiti around town. Just absolutely fueled by hate handed down, generation to generation, from angry slavers.

Here's the interview for the source: https://www.rollingstone.com/tv-movies/tv-movie-features/samuel-l-jackson-interview-marvel-secret-invasion-brie-larson-trump-racists-fbi-threat-tarantino-1234774278/

Learned many things that made me respect Samuel L. Jackson very much. Loved him standing up for Brie Larson. Had no idea he was an usher for MLK Jr's funeral.

Rural folks are some of the most charitable folks you'll ever meet. Because that means you're dependent on them and they're better than you. It's why they hate government programs. They hate the idea that helping their neighbor is a given. They want the power over you. They want to be able to hold it over you, that they could take it away at any moment.

They also don't think of themselves as racist because they don't hate all black people. But they do expect them to stay in their place. They don't want them being too proud or having opinions about things. Same with women, same with gays. Anyone trans has to have a certain amount of courage to live openly like that. So they're automatically on the shit list. Alternate religions must be reviewed and approved.

They're fascists. They don't want equality. Even if they "allow" equality, it's still theirs to take away.

[-] Itdidnttrickledown@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

He is right. I was raised by them. These snowflakes can't take any amount of equality because they know they don't measure up and they really think they shouldn't have to. Much easier to be some pathetic bigot.

[-] aeternum@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 1 month ago

They're doing it to young people, gay people, foreign people, trans people. Sucks if you're a young gay trans foreign person.

[-] LodeMike@lemmy.today 5 points 1 month ago

When did he say this. Samuel L Jackson doesn't age so this could've been like 8 years ago.

[-] el_twitto@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

I agree with Samuel COMPLETELY, but this quote.needs more "motherfuckers" to get people's attention.

[-] D_C@lemm.ee 3 points 1 month ago

I like ol' Sammy even more now than I did when I woke up this morning.
