The Article makes it sound like lichen. A symbiosis so close and a host evolutionarily completely adapted to this symbiosis, I'm okay with drawing the line there and calling it metgan-consuming. We have to draw the line somewhere afterall :))

Isn't "Methane-powered sea spiders discovered crawling on ocean floor" enough creepy for you?
I mean, they're on the sea floor. They more than likely cant possibly survive depressurizing to get on land.
That's very reassuring. Wouldn't want them in one's own bed, they'd get fat on farts.
