Wow, this article is garbage. I read the whole hing and still don’t know what makes this bomb different from all the others. Not even the “How it works” section covers at all how it is supposed to penetrate the ground.

Dropped by the B-2 stealth bomber, the GBU-57 is designed to strike locations that require significant penetration, such as hardened and deeply-buried bunkers, tunnels and facilities.

The bomb can penetrate up to 60 meters (200 feet) into the ground.

Iran’s deepest site, Fordow, is estimated to be 80–90 meters (260–295 feet) below ground and may need multiple strikes at the same location to reach the facility.

It carries a large explosive payload which is detonated when it reaches its target.

Possibly a stupid question. Why don’t they construct cages like they do on tanks? As in, multiple layers of something cheap that would trigger detonation early.
