Funny thing is terf island doesn't even need that, they can literally create more money to pay for both things, the central bank can issue unlimited pounds. But they'd rather simultaneously fund war and murder people with disabilities than only fund war.

"MPs vote to kill people"

[-] SoyViking@hexbear.net 38 points 7 months ago

These are the famous Western values that we've been hearing so much about.

[-] SpicyLizards@reddthat.com 37 points 7 months ago

Surely, with their precious genocide money, they can afford services... oh wait, they're just evil all round

[-] CTHlurker@hexbear.net 43 points 7 months ago

the weirdest part of the UK is that it's seemingly the most dysfunctional country currently. Like, they had some of the biggest tech and industrial headstarts you can imagine, and somehow they managed to learn fuck all. The second their empire stopped sending them tribute, their country began a slow collapse, which we're now seeing accelerate. I genuinely struggle to think of a worse example of how to run a country, and it's seemingly done for no reason. The people who are destroying the country aren't even making out like bandits, like we saw in Russia after the murder of the Soviet Union, but is done entirely for ideological reasons. And when the ideology runs into the simple material fact that their thinking is plainly wrong, they just double down and do more of the same. It's maddening!

because we're run by the boys from st noncingtons school for boys and men which costs 2 billion pounds a semester which for some reason isn't friendly to those without

[-] CTHlurker@hexbear.net 18 points 7 months ago

yeah but that's my point. You can show the St. Noncingtons School for Boys and Men the numbers that prove that their way of doing things is obviously not working. But even when shown the data, they just double and triple down to a degree that I struggle to fathom. And I hope that you guys figure out a way to make your leaders understand it soon, since it seems my prime minister is hellbent on following in your footsteps (I believe my country is currently where you guys were in 2014, so things aren't looking good).

because it works for them

If imperialism is the highest stage of capitalism, it stands to reason that if you take away the imperialism it’s no bueno

[-] communism@lemmy.ml 22 points 7 months ago

That's not what "imperialism" in the context of "imperialism is the highest stage of capitalism" means. Britain is still doing imperialism/in the imperialist stage of capitalism, it just doesn't have an "empire" in the same sense as the Romans had an empire.

[-] glimmer_twin@hexbear.net 5 points 7 months ago

I was being glib

[-] Collatz_problem@hexbear.net 20 points 7 months ago

Why would they learn anything when they had headstarts? Learning is for backward countries, who have a choice to learn or perish.

[-] HamManBad@hexbear.net 9 points 7 months ago

I would argue that Spain was even worse post-empire but it doubt the UK has hit rock bottom yet

[-] LeonTreatsky@hexbear.net 31 points 7 months ago

At this point it seems like we're just figuring out new ways to cull the disabled every 5 years.

[-] Frogmanfromlake@hexbear.net 29 points 7 months ago

Looks like this type of thing will be happening all over

[-] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 14 points 7 months ago

doomjak: “I just want a job.”

porky-happy: “Sorry kiddo, can’t help ya. I only hire ‘the best’ and I’m not even hiring anymore!”

doomjak: “Please, I can’t work. Anything so I don’t die?”

porky-happy: “Sorry kiddo, but that’s so undignified. Not to mention that ‘free stuff’ comes from stealing from hard workers like me! So no benefits, that would be stealing!”

[-] Awoo@hexbear.net 27 points 7 months ago

On Monday (1 July), the government confirmed that cuts will only impact new disability benefit claimants, while current claimants will be protected.

Shit is very bad but at least it will only affect new claims. I can see a court case happening down the line to determine what a "current claimant" really is when they fuck with some people though.

[-] Horse@lemmygrad.ml 20 points 7 months ago

fingers crossed it could be killed at third stage

[-] Ildsaye@hexbear.net 7 points 7 months ago

Bosses do this with union contracts too, to create tiers with differing interests, splitting and dissipating the opposition

[-] Awoo@hexbear.net 5 points 7 months ago

Yeah the ghouls in charge are basically running anti-leftist organising tactics. They have been doing so since the antizionism purges.

[-] DisabledAceSocialist@hexbear.net 4 points 7 months ago

Well that's a new and terrible thing to worry about. I hadn't thought of that.

[-] Awoo@hexbear.net 2 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

On the plus side the court tends to come down against the government on benefits really often. I expect there will be some fuckery at some point and then the court will come down against the gov for it.

[-] sodium_nitride@hexbear.net 13 points 7 months ago

Dame Meg Hillier, who chairs the Treasury select committee and was a originally a key rebel, said “divided parties don’t hold power” and that claimed that if Labour members want to see their values played out in this country “we need to vote for this today”.

We need unity and power so we can ram through more ghoulshit policies.

I'm not kidding when I say this, kill these people.

[-] jack@hexbear.net 10 points 7 months ago

we should actually have a fawkes emote

[-] Horse@lemmygrad.ml 7 points 7 months ago

[-] jack@hexbear.net 9 points 7 months ago

Looks like the whip was cracked https://www.theyworkforyou.com/divisions/pw-2025-07-01-248-commons

When Suella “homelessness is a lifestyle choice” Braverman votes ‘no’ you have to question what you’re doing surely.

[-] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 7 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

We ask community members to appreciate the uncertainty inherent in critical analysis of current events, the need to constantly learn, and take part in the community with humility. None of us are the One True Leftist, not even you, the reader.

Newcomm and Newsmega Rules:

The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.

  1. Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

  2. Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.

  3. Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.

  4. Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.

  5. Archive sites: We highly encourage use of non-paywalled archive sites (i.e. archive.is, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org) so that links are widely accessible to the community and so that reactionary sources don’t derive data/ad revenue from Hexbear users. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.

  6. Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.

  7. American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.

  8. Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.

  9. AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.
