I got a Reddit ban for calling a cracker a cracker
I had leftover tom kha for lunch and dinner today. It's my favorite. My wife makes it hella creamy (more like a thick curry than the typical soup), with fried tofu and a mix of mushrooms. So fuckin good.
Absolutely nothing. No I'm not doing ok.
Same
Do you mind if I ask what's going on?
Fired from my job a few months ago, did manage to get a temp gig but that runs out in Nov and job prospects are non-existent. So I'll lose my home and likely have to live with my parents as a 30 year old. Not a single friend I can hangout with IRL. No one I can talk to. No SO, dating app fatigue. No real motivation to even try anymore. And within the last few days I've come to question my sexuality. I've come to accept I'm not really as attracted to cis women like I used to be and have an interest in trans girls but fear that just makes me a chaser so idk wtf to do about that. Honestly haven't been this low since I got involuntarily hospitalized after getting addicted to benzos in my early 20s.
It's not as bad as it could be but looking at the future I can only see it getting worse and that's what gets me.
Woof. Yeah that's tough :/ I'm sorry you're feeling so low. Congrats on the temp gig though!
have to live with my parents as a 30 year old
Is this mostly a pride thing, or are your parents bad people?
No one I can talk to
Fear not! You have access to dozens, maybe even HUNDREDS of terminally online communists!
No real motivation to even try anymore
Burnout is the devil. I hope you can recharge
within the last few days I've come to question my sexuality
Exciting!!! That does seem like a challenging situation re: not being a chaser, and honestly idk the answer. The fact that you're worried about being one is a good sign, though! Maybe ask here how to respectfully date trans women?
My (cishet) opinion is that you should try it out if you're able. As long as it's between consenting adults, there's no "wrong" sexuality, and never questioning the default is lame.
I can only see it getting worse and that's what gets me
Yeah... that'd get me too. By "it" do you mean your specific situation, or things in general?
If it's the former, at least you have a whole new world of sexuality to explore!
If it's the latter, I've made a couple posts about my optimism, but I understand the call of doomerism.
My parents are great but loving with them is a major ego & self confidence hit. Plus no one wants to date a nearly 31 year old living with his parents. Makes intimacy very difficult. & "It" is referring to my situation specifically but the state of the world certainly does not help.
I really appreciate the kind words though. Truly. Thank you so much
No problem! I hope that you're able to find a job and can keep your house, but it's nice that you have your parents to fall back on if it doesn't work out.
Fwiw, I've given up on dating and it's been very good for my mental health. I was spending a lot of time trying to find an SO, but lately I've been putting that time into hobbies instead and have been much happier. If I bump into someone, I'm open to dating, but that's not the goal (or the desire, even. Dating is a lot of work)
Obviously, that may not be an option for you, but something to consider.
Best of luck!
I've had a shitty credit score my whole adult life because I missed like three payments over fifteen years ago. I never bothered to keep track of it because it never got better no matter how many cars I paid off etc.
I checked it today and it went up over 100 points and is now at a respectable 750.
I know credit scores are evil and shitty but this is the game we have to play, and after several years of high interest rates for cars and stuff I now get to refinance some stuff and save money that i was basically throwing down a hole.
Saw an old metal head with two trans themed patches in the train today.
Seeing many many bees in the garden. This has been the best year yet for biodiversity in the yard.
Same, and also butterflies for us! We decided to let dandelions run wild, and before this I had no idea that they could grow like 6+ feet tall, or that butterflies absolutely love them.
right on. I made dandelion jelly a couple years ago. I didn't love it enough to do it again, but I'm glad I did it once. it had a nice floral flavour and scent. let me tell you, it takes a heck of a lot of flower petals to do it
have you noticed more birds too? i've found that successive years of rewilding/improving biodiversity stack up over time. I really hope I am here to see this place in 20 years when trees I've planted are grown.
Absolutely, way more birds than when we first moved in. Luckily there’s established trees in our yard too, and I’ve noticed a bigger variety of birds lately after we started planting wildflower patches in our vegetable beds too. I think they like the insects we get in our yard as well thanks to all the different plants
As a bonus, the neighbors have given up complaining at us about it, lol
I've planted a tiny meadow in front of our rental and the birds are really loving it. They come to eat the seeds and it's so fun watching them hop around in the daisies.
Nice try fed, I will not tell you what makes me happy
I made a doctor’s appointment after not going to a doctor in more than half my life because I don’t like going to a doctor, but have been dealing with multiple health issues. I am anxious about it but it would be nice to know I’m (hopefully) not dying.
Read some solid smut today, made me all tingly in my toes.
currently hanging out with my beautiful fiancée watching gdq
Kisses you :33333
I just moved into a historic house in a cute little town where I can walk downtown and my spouse can walk to work
House was built by freed slaves right after the civil war which is cool
that's cool as hell
i've only been up for an hour so far, so, uh,
this is my first time growing tomato plants, and they're doing ok. it's crazy that they were just a little seedling and now they're 3 feet tall mini trees and bearing little green marbles. i've decided to turn a portion of the front yard into a pumpkin patch and have about 20 plants snaking their way across the yard, which is pretty fun. they should all be maxed out by late october for the spooky day.
It cooled down a little last night so I had the window open, and I went to bed on time and got some good fuckin sleep. Feeling pretty alright today.
My dog let me pick her up and bear hug her this morning. She's so fluffy!
(not for very long mind you, but a couple seconds is all I need)
My new computer parts might arrive 2 days earlier
Improvising harmonies on my electric piano along with the Deltarune soundtrack. Feels good just to vibe out and get lost in catchy music. Pretty sure Field of Hopes and Dreams is in B flat major. Stay tuned, like, and subscribe for more of my music theory breakdowns
Gave it a listen—I'd call it G minor, which is the relative minor of B♭ major, so it has the same key signature of two flats (meaning you're not wrong in a sense!) except with G as the tonic ("home" note) instead of B♭. The way to suss it out is to figure out what note feels like "home" or "at rest." If you continuously play a B♭ over the chord progression, you'll hear that it's pulling down, and if you follow that tug down the scale to G, you'll hear that it feels at rest, so you can just keep playing G over and over and it won't need to move anywhere. Another hint that it might be G minor is that the opening chord is G minor and the opening melody note is G. That doesn't guarantee anything, but starting on the tonic chord is pretty common, and the most conventional notes to start a melody on are probably the first and fifth scale degrees.
One thing that might've led you to B♭ major is how in the middle ~third of the song a new motif is introduced which IS in B♭ major. I think it would be fair to call this section B♭ major; if you try that same trick again, you'll notice that G no longer feels like home, while B♭ does. In fact, returning to that hint about melody scale degrees, the melody starts out by walking up the B♭ major scale from the first degree (B♭) up to the fifth degree (F)—again, not a given, but something to listen for! After that motif goes away, it returns to G minor, which is why I'd feel confident in calling it G minor overall.
It's always fun to just vibe out and jam to a nice chord progression! A favorite of mine is the Grover Washington & Bill Withers classic "Just the Two of Us" (the recording is maddeningly a bit sharp from A=440 Hz, but thankfully you can usually compensate for that on an electric piano). Besides being a great progression in and of itself, it's also pretty handy to learn because it's a chord progression you hear all over the place; three examples off the top of my head are "My Boo" by Ghost Town DJs, "Moonlight Sunrise" by TWICE, and the main theme from Spirited Away, "One Summer's Day" by Joe Hisaishi (yes, seriously...if you focus on the bass line of the "chorus" it should help to hear it!).
Thank you so much for this thoughtful reply!
Confession time, I was going off the memory of playing early in the morning while half drunk, haha. And I was particularly fixated on the exact phrase you called out as being in Bb major... that F works too well and was really calling out to me there. I do remember thinking "maybe G minor?" but I was so wrapped up in that hook!
I haven't made time to revisit the song yet but I'm quite sure I'll find your analysis to be correct. I've always been good at playing by ear but lately I'm teaching myself music theory and while I still get things wrong I still enjoy learning through the mistakes! This is what I love about music.
Thanks for the other recommendations as well! Chord progressions are the latest thing I've come around to understanding, and yeah once you get familiar with one you start clocking it everywhere in popular music. The Doo Wop progression is one of my favorites to play around with. I'll check out your links next time I get to play, thanks again!
Oh yeah that "Just The Two Of Us" progression is lovely! Exciting

My eye really hurt yesterday and I thought I scratched my cornea and might have to go to urgent care but I woke up today and it feels better I am wearing glasses instead of contacts to be careful though.
I got extorted out of a guitar this weekend (long story), and can't start a new job i was excited about for at least another month, but at least I figured out how to keep Mario Wonder from crashing on my retroid.
