I bought a Miyoo Mini+, really loving this little thing. I've downloaded some packs of roms with the classic games, but now I'm looking for some more modern ones.

I know that people are making some new GBA games on itch.io but I don't know if other older consoles are also getting some indie love. I also saw that I can play some RPGM games using EasyRPG, so any recommendations for those would be great too.

oh shit RPGM games on the miyoo?? i’ll have to look into that. Mine recently borked itself while on vacation but I think I just need to reinstall onion on the SD.

I saw in this guide. The EasyRPG looks pretty limited, the more modern RPGM will probably not work.

Everyone recommends Cave Story through retroarch and I think you can even get Caves of Qud working on there, or I'm confusing the two.

I bought the R36S for my kids and the thing shipped with Stardew Valley on there. I don't know how but it works.

Cave Story looks good and is easy to run it. I'll give it a try

Cave Story is really fun

Well if you haven't already you should checkout pico8. It's a console that never really existed with an emulator where people make all sorts of cool games for it. Celeste was originally written for it: https://www.lexaloffle.com/bbs/?pid=11722

Cool, I wrote in the post GBA but I was thinking of the GBC.

Oh lol. Yeah, i'm sure there's homebrew communities for other consoles. if you want to follow mine, it's at my git.

It's basically nothing yet, but it should be cooler by the end of august

There's a pretty robust modding community for Super Mario World (SNES). Many ROM hacks ranging from casual to kaiso.

I saw A Plumber for All Seasons get run on GDQ last week, looked like a pretty sick casual ROM hack.

This is piquing my curiosity about these retrohandhelds.

~~When it says things like "25,000 games" do they come with games preloaded or do you have to add them yourself?~~

Yes, apparently they do come with games installed. These things are pretty cool.

Golden Sun is my favorite Gameboy JPRG. Classic pokemon games are pretty good for some mindless fun. Idk what systems your thing can emulate but the early final fantasy games are pretty good as well.

I used to have a link to an archive of hundreds of indie roms but it's gone now doggirl-gloom

RetroAchievements allows achievements for homebrew roms, so they have a list of games that people cared enough about to make an achievement set for. No links to roms but it might give you some ideas. Link

If nothing else, there's always Disco Elysium: Game Boy Edition

[-] ZeroHora@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 days ago

Nice link.

Sadly the Disco Elysium GB is not the entire game.

Sadly the Disco Elysium GB is not the entire game.

True though fitting the entire game into a GB rom (which maxes out at 1 mb) would be an incredible feat

Fire Emblem romhacks are really good, and it's like retro gaming with modern community-favorite features. I haven't played too deeply into many of them, but I completed The Morrow's Golden Country and loved it, and am running through it again after some time.

Never heard off it, I'll give it a try. FE is really good.
