Poster caption: "Glory to Lenin’s Komsomol"

poster loreThe Komsomol was the All-Union Leninist Young Communist League. It was first called the Russian Young Communist League (RKSM) but with the unification of the U.S.S.R., it was made an all-union organization and youth division of the All-Union Communist Party. Komsomol was the final tier of the three youth organizations in the U.S.S.R. Members were between the ages 14 to 28 and they joined after graduating from the Young Pioneers. Prior to being Pioneers, they graduated at age 9 from the Octobrists.

So, I want to make a break for leaving my parents basement, and with my summer job wrapping up, my main priority is getting a permanent job. That way I can actually get that apartment.

If I lack the five years of work experience even entry level is looking for, how do I accumulate skills so employers don’t immediately run for the hills as soon as my resume is submitted?

Do anyone have good resources on losing weight? Specially on the eating side of things. I plan to go to a nutritionist as soon as I can, but anything I can do in the meantime is good.

So I decided to quit vaping (again) and this time I'm trying something different. I'm giving zyn a whirl. I'm still using nicotine but afaik this is the least harmful way to use. The recent stories about the heavy metals in disposable vapes made me want to stop, add in the cost (it's cheaper to smoke cigs now than vape), and the fact it messes with my sleep at night.

So if you use nic pouches let me know what you think. I got the coffee flavor and I like the taste.

This week I practiced meditation on 4 days and went running on 2 days.

My sleep has been kinda garbage lately. I want to develop a new habit to turn of all screens at 10:30PM and read books before bed.

Pretty blah week. Took the week off and some of the next to try and relax and recover. Did take a trip earlier in the week which was cool, but my dad ended up in the hospital for a couple days and I ended up scrapping my other travel plans. Had some work and family drama pop up too so I haven't really been able to relax and find the peace that I had wanted on my time off.

In so far as fitness, its been good still. Went to the gym, worked out at home, or cycled pretty much every day, so its been another saving grace from my otherwise not so great week.

Going to meet up with a couple of old friends today and hope its the start of a turnaround in my fortunes for the rest of the week/month.

I've actually been good and have been going on ~3 mile walks each day for the past 3 and doing my PT exercises. So far I havent really experienced any achilles pain so I think I'm in my sweet spot. I'm excited to see whether or not my PT pays off by being able to walk or hike 5 miles without pain. If this helps my knee pain as well I'll probably cry tears of joy, being able to jump or hike on uneven terrain again would be so amazing kitty-cri

My Adderall got a bump a couple days ago and as of yesterday I think it's actually working to make me feel more motivated. Wish it would quiet my brain down but feeling more peppy/wanting to get up and do things is really nice. Thank God I'm out of my slump!

2 solid days of self study, got a whole week of it going forward tho here's hoping I get a call for one of the places I applied for. Also need to take my truck in to a third opinion on what my transmission will be tomorrow, dreading it but hoping I get some good news.

Im not doing much but . Im going to bed at a normal hour for once. so its a start

[-] moonlake@hexbear.net 2 points 3 days ago

That's a good start, I think that sleep is one of the 4 pillars of well-being. If you get that under control, you're already making good progress niko-sleep

I did pretty good this week.

I ran 6 morning and did at least 5k each time. I plan to keep pushing my miles up gradually, at least to 10k 6x/week.

I ate better, but I still haven't figured out an intermittent fasting schedule that doesn't affect my ability to work. I'm going to try to calorie count for a couple weeks just to see where I'm at with my current eating. I don't think I'm doing too poorly but I can't tell without counting.

Didn't do much else besides gig work because it was super busy. Last week was my highest earning week ever and I beat that by $200 this week. My partner really wants to read Capital with me, but I just don't have the energy to read something so heavy right now. I'm hoping I can work a bit less in the coming week and at least start it.

I sometimes use Cronometer to track my calories, it has a browser version so I can quickly track everything on my laptop. It's free and very easy to use, you can copy/paste meals or entire days that you tracked

[-] LanyrdSkynrd@hexbear.net 2 points 2 days ago

I still have a lot of the meals I regularly eat in MyFitnessPal, so I'll probably use that.

Thanks for the rec, tho, I'll check it out

haven't been doing too hot for the past week or so. had a few sober days, won't get into specifics, but i definitely am capable of better. i've been going to my IOP program consistently without missing days this whole month so that's a win in my book

my plan for this week is to spend more time out of the house. i am unemployed and in between semesters which has kinda been an excuse to just... rot forever for the past 2 1/2 months. not sure what to do specifically (walk, go for a drive somewhere, etc) but regardless it'll be a change.

[-] moonlake@hexbear.net 3 points 3 days ago

Are there some libraries or parks in your area? That's where I would go to. Also, I like to go on a walk outside while listening to podcasts. Are you into podcasts?

[-] sunshinesoul@hexbear.net 2 points 1 day ago

there's some nice parks around me but not within walking distance unfortunately! i drove to one today and it was nice, couldn't tolerate the heat for too long though so i didn't stay for as long as i wanted to. not super into podcasts, but if you have any suggestions on what to listen to on a walk i'd try some out!

I listen to a bunch of different podcasts, here are some of my favourites:

Guys with Bryan Quinby - a podcast about different types of guys. This is basically required listening for Hexbears. Every episode, the hosts and the guest of that week choose a type of silly online guy and read funny posts and reviews.

Pew Pew Bang - a gaming podcast which is also a slumber party. Four women from games media chat about games and stuff. Immaculate vibes.

Overdue - a podcast about the books you've been meaning to read. Every week they read one book and talk about it. Wide range of books and very nice hosts.

If Books Could Kill - also a podcast about books, but this one is specifically about bad books. Bad popular science books, bad books about relationships, bad political books. It's funny and informative.

All of these podcasts have good politics, which is a bonus.

Self Improvement

333 readers
2 users here now

A community which focusses on improving yourself. This can be in many different ways - from improving physical health or appearance, to improving mental health, creating better habits, overcoming addictions, etc.

While material circumstances beyond our control do govern much of our daily lives, people do have agency and choices to make, whether that is as "simple" as disciplining yourself to not doomscroll, to as complex as recreating yourself to have many different hobbies and habits.

This is not a place where all we do is talk about improving "productivity" (in a workplace context) and similar terms and harmful lifestyles like "grindset". Self-improvement here is intended to make you a generally better and happier person, as well as a better communist, and any other roles you may have in your life.

Rules and guidelines:

  1. Posts should be about self-improvement. This is obviously a wide category, and can range from advice, to finding resources, to self-posts about needing to improve in a certain area, or how you have improved, and many other things.

  1. Use content warnings when discussing difficult subjects.

  1. Do not make medical decisions solely because of a discussion you have had with any person here (e.g. whether to take or not take medications; diagnoses; etc.) as we do not vet people. All medical problems should be discussed with a real-life medical professional.

  1. Do not post harmful advice here. If this is seen, then please report it and we shall remove it. If you are unsure about whether it's precisely harmful advice or not but feel uneasy about it, please report it anyway.

  1. Do not insult other users and their lifestyles or their habits (unless they ask, I suppose). This is a place for self-improvement. Critique and discussion about a course of action is encouraged over shit-flinging. Don't talk down to people.
