Boycott Steam.

They were not even willing to fight back with the power of 5% of their annual revenue.

Blaming the wrong people. Blame Collective Shout and Stripe

[-] shani66@ani.social 4 points 3 days ago

Wrong people, again. Although harassing conservative puritans is always a plus in my book. The real issue is visa and MasterCard, which steam could absolutely fuck over btw.

No YOU have the wrong people. Visa and Mastercard have nothing to do with it.

E: if anyone wants to explain why I'm being downvoted, even after providing proof, please feel free.

They're the ones refusing payment.

Okay, I'm sure you know better than the companies that are being subjected to these terms and removing games.

The situation is evolving as we await final determinations from our current payment processors, Stripe and PayPal

And in fact, Mastercard themselves

Mastercard has not evaluated any game or required restrictions of any activity on game creator sites and platforms, contrary to media reports and allegations.

You do understand that without payment processors they lose all revenue streams altogether, right? Like, none of us can buy games anymore.

The oligopoly in that industry is insane.

Steam gift cards with codes have been working great for me so far to recharge my wallet. They can switch to those

[-] mindbleach@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 days ago

Cash-only? Off the rack, at CVS?

[-] JubJubBird@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago

Yeah. You can get them at supermarkets and sometimes gas stations where I live in germany

[-] mindbleach@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago

Yes, I am aware they exist. I am asking if you expect Steam's entire business model to hinge on cards you have to buy at gas stations and grocery stores.

[-] JubJubBird@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago

I would say it gives them enough security to test if the payment providers would actually pull through with their threat. Which as far as I know they didn't try.

[-] rikudou@lemmings.world -3 points 3 days ago

Well, you could buy on GOG.

[-] gerryflap@feddit.nl 3 points 2 days ago

For now. If the payment providers truly want this then it's only a matter of time. GOG can't function without them either

"just go the next state over for your abortion it will be fine"

[-] rikudou@lemmings.world -2 points 3 days ago

Help us, gods of all false equivalences!

[-] shani66@ani.social 4 points 3 days ago

That's not a false equivalence, is the people that control how your money is spent say no more games then you get no more games.

[-] rikudou@lemmings.world 2 points 3 days ago

That is very extremely false equivalence. First, equating right to abortion with right to buy nsfw games is ridiculous. If I only could choose one, it would definitely be right to abortion and I would hope most people would vote the same.

Second, I'm simply saying if a store doesn't offer what you want, why not support the one that does?

[-] shani66@ani.social 3 points 2 days ago

Because it isn't the store not offering what you want, it's the payment processors not letting stores sell this, that'll affect every single store on earth as they become more aware of it

We met and decided, theres no help for you unfortunately.

[-] Rekorse@sh.itjust.works -4 points 2 days ago

Stupid take, and you all shouldnt be playing loli rape games.

[-] JubJubBird@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 days ago

Not every porn game is csam

[-] mindbleach@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 days ago

No porn game is CSAM. The entire point of that acronym is that it stands for "photographic evidence of child rape."

[-] JubJubBird@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago

I thought CSAM meant literally "Child sexual abuse material" and that it is a better word than childporn because calling it that makes it sound like its some genre of porn which is too harmless of a description for it. That applies to drawn as well as real depictions. Both are material showing child sexual abuse.

[-] mindbleach@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago

The term specifically exists to describe material from the abuse of children.

You cannot abuse children who do not exist.

The entire point is distinguishing the kind of JPGs you go to prison for, versus a drawing of Bart Simpson's dick. There's a reason that only one of those things is readily available on popular websites. The other one's a lot worse. Separating them is kind of important.

[-] Rekorse@sh.itjust.works -1 points 2 days ago

I think you are behind on your arguments, these days its "the girls aren't real so there is no abuse".

Sorta sounds like "I want to express my desires to fuck children" if you turn your head a certain way.
