This sort of meaningless "gotchas" aimed at the US govt is becoming insufferable. Trump cheats at golf, they paved over the grass before the White House, Vance fucks couches and listens to Queen... I'm sure they're trembling and praying we don't also find out Trump doesn't know how to use chopsticks and Vance got a speeding ticket in 2009. Their power would crumble immediately.

You know, this doesn't sit right. Calling music "gay" for nebulous reasons, such as featuring vocals by women, is counterproductive. Hell, many of those tracks were national hits and there's no way they got there if they were only enjoyed by people in the lgbtq+ community. The "target" here may be Vance, but the message being sent is that straight men can't and shouldn't enjoy certain types of music. This is middle school (from when I attended at least) bullshit and reinforces toxic masculinity.

Hey I just saved that playlist because it’s actually full of bangers.

THIS is why I’m on Lemmy. This comment, right here. This shit never gets said on reddit, and if it did, it gets ignored or downvoted.

As a gay man, I could not have put it better myself. They’re literally saying “Lol isn’t JD’s music super gay? Haha must mean he is too…. HAHAHAHA I’m not homophobic but it’s giving limp wrist…lol”

They’re trying to make being gay or gay ‘things’ into the butt of the joke. This is homophobia, people. It’s not that deep. Do better.

idk, what i'm getting from the article is "yo, this dude likes more queer-coded music, yet he hates all queer people" and not "yo this dude likes queer- coded music, lmao gay"

Hey fellas, does liking music make you gay?

[-] Kolanaki@pawb.social 0 points 1 week ago

If the playlist is nothing but Gravy Train, Dixon Dallas and Pent Up Pup? Most definitely.

[-] Death_Equity@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

It is not a proper verified gay playlist without Cher.

Vance was somewhat progressive in college. I wouldn't be surprised if his music tastes come from that era. Honestly, the same goes for his makeup style.

Ok just looked at it, and yeah that's not a particularly gay playlist. It's honestly just what people listened to where him and I grew up, regardless of orientation. He does seem to really like when death cab goes straight for the soul. But I was expecting shit like Defying Gravity, Chappell Roan, and enough Britney and Christina to be a bit much. But nah, this could easily be any of my high school friends' playlists, and I'm the only one to wind up queer.

This is probably the least concerning thing about the man. What a non-article.

[-] harsh3466@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 week ago

Fuck JD Vance, but also, people can and should enjoy whatever music tickles their brain. But Fuck JD Vance (And that POS felon)

I simply don't believe a man who dresses in drag and wears eyeliner listens to gay anthem playlists. Next, you are going to tell me he's a closeted gay man. He's got a wife for Pete's sake!

[-] t_berium@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

What would a gay Playlist be? Musicals? I don't even know (and I won't check the 'article'). Look, I'm the last person who wants to defend that lousy pile of cells, but no matter what's on his playlist, that doesn't make him gay any more than my horror punk, death or black metal playlists make me a necrophiliac mass murderer. That's just cheap and stupid.

I think this is a reach. A lot of those songs are just popular songs from his youth and conservatives famously have incredibly poor media literacy. See all the people rocking out to Killing in the Name by Rage Against the Machine at pro police rallies

[-] I_Fart_Glitter@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Stay by Lisa Loeb is a gay anthem? I Wanna Dance With Somebody? Far Car is by a gay lady, but it’s really not about sexual orientation, it’s about struggling in poverty.

This all seems a stretch.

And here I thought he fancied couches, you think you know a guy...

nice username 😃

He strikes me as being in denial or very very very in the closet. Time will tell I guess.

[-] mienshao@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

As a gay man, fuck this comment. Nothing about him reads gay. He says he’s straight. He has a wife. He has kids. He’s said so much anti-LGBTQ shit. He’s straight.

So fucking sick of people making homophobes out to be closet gays. Every time you say that a homophobe is secretly just a self-hating gay, you’re literally saying that gay people are the reason behind their own homophobia. If behind every homophobe is a self-hating gay man, then you’re saying that gay men are causing all the hate within their own community.

And guess what! It’s bullshit! 99.999999999% of homophobic men who identify as straight are straight. They’re not secretly self-hating gays—they’re just straight dudes who hate gays. And that’s who JD Vance is. He’s a run-of-the-mill homophobic straight man who fucks couches. Call it for what it is, goddammit.

He has a wife. He has kids. He’s said so much anti-LGBTQ shit.

Oh yeah, you're right it couldn't possibly be then. Never happens that these guys who rail against this stuff so hard are found later in a compromising position.
