"Let's put it this way: I knew the president very well," Cuomo said. "I believe there's a big piece of him that actually wants redemption in New York. He feels that he was rejected by New York. We voted for Hillary Clinton. Bill de Blasio took his name off things. So I believe there will be opportunities to actually cooperate with him. I also believe that he's not going to want to fight with me in New York if he can avoid it."

Pretty much just handed Mamdani the election...

All he has to do is run that sound bite in the week or two running up to the election.

New Yorkers don't want someone that will work with trump. They want someone who will fight for them against trump.

He'll do it without asking consent, first.

[-] TheLowestStone@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

Jokes on him. I grant blanket consent to anyone who will suck my dick.

Don't underestimate old ass Democrats. Donate and volunteer man.

[-] meco03211@lemmy.world 6 points 4 months ago

Dems are masters at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

[-] mcv@lemmy.zip 18 points 4 months ago

With his corruption and sexual harassment, joining the Trump camp makes total sense for him.

Great shit analogy, Mr Lahey.

Sure you are, Mr Lahey. Do you think it's a good idea to drive, Mr Lahey?

[-] BigBenis@lemmy.world 9 points 4 months ago

If NY elects Cuomo, one of America's most powerful blue states will be in Trump's pocket.

[-] tmyakal@infosec.pub 2 points 4 months ago

There's no chance of that happening without some kind of election interference. New Yorkers hate Cuomo. He resigned in disgrace because he's a sexual predator and because he spent COVID killing everyone's grandparents and lying about it. By the time he resigned in disgrace, he was a full mask-off villain.

He's a nepo-baby politician that got to play King of New York for a very short time because of his daddy's connections. Born on third base and thinks he hit a triple. He's only doing this at all because, even though he resigned in disgrace, he thinks he's owed a shot at the White House, and mayor of New York is a first step back into the field.

I genuinely believe Alan Chartok would have a better shot at being mayor at this point.

[-] EndlessNightmare@reddthat.com 5 points 4 months ago

Holy fuck, Cuomo just won't give up. The voters have spoken very clearly, and they said "you fucking lost."

[-] ShinkanTrain@lemmy.ml 4 points 4 months ago

I knew the president very well

Do tell us about that, known sex pest Andrew Cuomo

[-] tonytins@pawb.social 3 points 4 months ago

He's doing a great job sinking whatever is left of his reputation.

[-] IAmNorRealTakeYourMeds@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

this NY election is the staging grounds for the next presidential election.

Will there be election interference? national guard show up during the mayoral election day, hitting locations where Zohran is polling well? would the government declare the vote fraudulent and appoint whoever they want? Will the government just arrest/deport/disappear the leading candidate and fabricate a smear campaign?

keep an eye open and if anyone can, they should resist

[-] Yeller_king@reddthat.com 3 points 4 months ago

I think they'll let Mamdani win and then endlessly fuck with NYC and blame him for it.

[-] IAmNorRealTakeYourMeds@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

socialism always fails... thanks to US interference.

[-] Septimaeus@infosec.pub 1 points 4 months ago

Real talk? New Yorkers kinda fuck with that.

[-] SoftestSapphic@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

And remember all of this, don't ever let the media make you forget how hard all power in the US fights against leftist values. Both sides do not want leftists to change things.

[-] Theprogressivist@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

"Trump himself, as well as top Republicans, will say the goal is to stop Mamdani... and you'll be wasting your vote on Sliwa. So I feel good about that," Cuomo said in a leaked recording.

Liberals are in bed with MAGA. Just different kool-aid flavors.

[-] FlexibleToast@lemmy.world 4 points 4 months ago

Neo-libs are

[-] PhilipTheBucket@piefed.social 3 points 4 months ago

Is it your impression that Cuomo is a liberal?

[-] Fades@lemmy.world 0 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Liberals are in bed with MAGA

What an absurd and reductive take, have you considered including a drop of nuance with your hyperbole?

[-] Theprogressivist@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago

Are you shilling for corporations, the rich, and in bed with MAGA? No? Then, Stfu, it doesn't apply to you.

[-] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works -3 points 4 months ago

Yes, that's why a socialist was voted in and cuomo was voted out in the primaries. /s

[-] floofloof@lemmy.ca 4 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Liberals are not socialists. If people vote for a socialist that means they're not voting for a liberal like Cuomo. Actually Mamdani is a "democratic socialist" and some socialists would distinguish that from socialism proper. But his policies are definitely working for the people, which is great to see. Liberals generally work for corporations before the people.

If you search the web for "Mamdani socialist" you find various flavors of right-wingers and evangelicals in full panic about how he'll end the world. If you look at his own website you find he proposes affordable buses, rent and childcare, and taxing corporations. Apocalyptic stuff.

[-] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works -2 points 4 months ago

Honestly, the term liberal, socialist, neo-liberal, etc. are such loaded terms and change constantly. They also are defined on who is hating on me at that moment. I don't have a term I call myself, but I like Bernie's ideas 99% of the time.

[-] dacreator@lemmy.world 4 points 4 months ago

Honestly? They may change constantly for you, which is why you seem confused by them.

[-] I_Fart_Glitter@lemmy.world -1 points 4 months ago

Progressive is probably what you are looking for.

[-] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works -2 points 4 months ago

You guys are off schedule though, what's up?

[-] PunnyName@lemmy.world 0 points 4 months ago

Mamdami won the primary...

[-] timbuck2themoon@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 months ago

For some reason people need to feel like the world is against them. Im convinced they make up 50+% of the hate they claim is against them.

[-] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 months ago

I know, we're agreeing.

[-] pyre@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

lol didn't he say in the debate that the thing about him was that he was the only one who could stand up to the orange guy? these cuomos are really the slimiest, most disgustingly unprincipled people... i never understand people who have literally zero shame.

[-] SulaymanF@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

Cuomo is such an embarrassment and a liar to boot. He lied and said he didn’t remember talking to Trump, then tells donors he and Trump have a plan. He tells the public he is Trump’s worst nightmare and then tells donors he has a plan to appease Trump.

[-] SlartyBartFast@sh.itjust.works 2 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Damn maybe both sides were the same after all

[-] goferking0@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 4 months ago

no you see it's different this time because Mamdani's the dem candidate and Cuomo the independent... Pay no attention to how dnc leadership or party leaders refuse to get involved in helping the dem candidate

[-] BussyGyatt@feddit.org 0 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

It's a winning strategy if they can pull it off. Spoil the democrats' vote by organizing the republicans who know they are bound to lose to vote for cuomo. and once again the only thing on decency's side is decency itself because this coordination is perfectly lawful, and mamdani can basically only appeal to the honor of cheaters or the passion of an apathetic public to do anything about this.

~~What I'm not seeing is any explanation for why the DNC, an independent and definitely-not-captured opposition party, is accepting help from president Donald "not only is the emperor not wearing any clothes but i'm pretty sure I can make out decades-old dried blood and jism on his thighs" Trump. Unless of course cuomo has taken that extraordinary step for himself, which of course leads to the question of why the DNC, an independent and definitely-not-captured opposition party, would tolerate such a brazen display of broken faith and ~~seeking~~ finding comfort from their supposed opponents.~~ it's because cuomo isn't running as a democrat this time.

[-] RustyEarthfire@lemmy.world 0 points 4 months ago

What I’m not seeing is any explanation for why the DNC ... is accepting help

Cuomo is running as an independent. He is running against the DNC.

[-] Tinidril@midwest.social 0 points 4 months ago

Cuomo is running against the Democratic nominee, not the DNC. I haven't seen the DNC has step up to back Mamdani, and it's pretty clear that DNC leadership backs Cuomo.

[-] Fades@lemmy.world 0 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

The closest I've seen is an interview With Tim Miller of The Bulwark and Jeffries. In that interview he presses him on that, where's the endorsement? All he could bring himself to answer with was 'I can tell you, the only person I have scheduled meetings with are with Mamdani', so actually I'd say it's pretty clear that DNC leadership isn't backing Cuomo but also not doing much for Mamdani either, which is bad and absurd but not as bad actually as backing someone other than who the people chose in the primary.

You can't simply take the lack of vocal support in this intermediate time in between as clear evidence that they back Cuomo, reality is far more nuanced. Your take could have more ground to stand on as we get closer to the actual election without anything different happening though.

[-] Tinidril@midwest.social 1 points 4 months ago

Oh look, the Democrats just unendorsed the progressive Democratic candidate for mayor in Minneapolis based on some procedural technicality. It's almost like there is a pattern.

That's why they don't get the benefit of the doubt anymore. When someone pulls the same shit over and over again and always has an excuse, the excuses stop working.
