Image is from this article, showing a march by the United Socialist Party of Venezuela Youth. The preamble's information came from a few sources, such as here, here, and here.

Over the last few weeks, pressure on Venezuela from the US has mounted as their newest proxy, Gonzalez, lost the election to Maduro. The Trump administration now alleges that Maduro is the mastermind behind the "Cartel of Suns," raised the bounty on Maduro's head from $25 million to $50 million, and is working to deploy troops and naval assets to the region.

While I would not consider myself an expert, I believe an explicit boots-on-the-ground campaign by the US in Venezuela would be, at best, implausible, though the administration has not explicitly denied it (and even if it did deny it, denials by the US are merely confirmations that are being delayed). What seems much more likely is an intensification of a subversive campaign against Venezuela which seeks to further isolate it, with intelligence from the US given to whatever groups and individuals exist inside the country. There are certainly some parallels in regard to recent US belligerence towards Mexico, with both countries being implicitly or explicitly threatened with military force under the guise of "preventing drug trafficking" - and, of course, spreading drugs is one of America's greatest specialities.

Will this work? I don't know, though I am optimistic about Venezuela's chances. The Venezuelan government does seem to be taking this threat with a refreshing degree of seriousness - with over 4 million militia members being activated across the country as of August 18th, as well as a call from Maduro to the armed forces to be on high alert. The socialist youth of Venezuela are being mobilized in defense of the revolution.

AP: Trump says US has carried out strike against drug-carrying vessel that departed from Venezuela

Trump says the U.S. has carried out a strike in the southern Caribbean against a drug-carrying vessel that departed from Venezuela.

The president on Tuesday offered scant details on the operation.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on X that the vessel was being operated by a “designated narco-terrorist organization.”

The press office of Venezuela’s government did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the announcement.

Stocks are soaring following a bad jobs report - because everyone believes this forces the Fed to cut interest rates. Tesla is especially doing well on news that the Tesla BoD proposes to offer a huge 10-year bonus deal to Elon Musk, dilute the Tesla shareholders and offers to invest in Elon Musk's xAI (because xAI is burning cash fast). So good news all around, I guess?

New U.S. Anti-Ballistic Interceptor Must Cost Under $750,000 — Is It Even Possible?

The Pentagon is seeking new ways to cheapen the missile defense against modern threats like Iskander or Zircon with a new competition announced the other day. The U.S. Missile Defense Agency (MDA) has announced a competition to develop a low-cost interceptor for cruise, ballistic, and hypersonic missiles, with a target unit price not exceeding $750,000. The goal is highly ambitious, but potentially very helpful, considering that a single Patriot PAC-3 MSE interceptor costs an average of $4.97 million — and typically two are fired per target. To cut costs, the MDA intends to rely on existing commercial and military components, along with cheap manufacturing practices.

The interceptor must also be designed with modularity and open architecture in mind, enabling easier modernization and sensor integration in the future. The minimum technical requirements include exo- and endoatmospheric interception of ballistic and hypersonic threats — such as russia's Kalibr, Iskander, and Kinzhal missiles. The interceptor should reach speeds of at least Mach 5, have a range of 200 km, and use a high-explosive fragmentation warhead with terminal homing guidance. The interceptor also must support in-flight target updates and trajectory corrections to engage maneuvering hypersonic gliders. At the same time, the system has to fit inside both Patriot launchers and naval vertical launch systems (VLS).

To summarize, the program seeks a unified, budget-friendly interceptor designed to counter the kind of massive mixed salvos of missiles seen in Ukraine — one that doesn't cost all the money in the world. This reflects an adequate understanding of today's priorities, especially against the known shortage of interceptors in NATO countries. However, achieving 200 km range and ballistic missile interception for under $750,000 per unit seems highly optimistic. Perhaps, some innovative design or its manufacturing technique could make it possible, but meeting both performance and cost requirements is surely a difficult task. Submissions to the competition are accepted by the end of September. After that, there will be a six-month preparation phase, followed by a year of prototype development and testing. For now, the objective is limited to "prototype demonstrations," with the full program expected to take two to five years.

Well, I guess finally a tacit admission by the Americans that their air defense equipment costs way too fucking much - note that this is coming on the heels of a whole lot of such munitions being expended defending Israel, plus all the stuff that's been eaten up over several years in Ukraine, so replacement of all that is likely on people's minds. But somehow going down from nearly 5 million to 750k doesn't seem particularly likely. Even eliminating the MIC graft factor, there's just a degree of inherent complexity to such a missile, it's going to end up costing a decent bit even if you are very efficient.

Yemen struck Ramon Airport with a drone, injuring several settlers. Will update with upcoming statement in 30 min.

https://t.me/SABAYEen/81252

Triumphing for the oppressed Palestinian people and their dear Mujahideen, and in response to the crimes of genocide and starvation perpetrated by the Zionist enemy against our people in the Gaza Strip, and to affirm Yemen's steadfast position in the battle of the promised conquest and holy jihad.

The UAV force of the Yemeni Armed Forces carried out a military operation with a large number of drones targeting numerous targets in the Negev, Umm al-Rashrash, Ashkelon, Ashdod, and Yaffa regions.

The attacks were distributed as follows:

A drone targeted Ramon Airport, which, by Allah's grace, directly hit the airport and caused the airport to shut down and halt air traffic.

Three drones targeted two sensitive military targets in the Negev.

A drone targeted a vital target in Ashkelon.

A drone targeted Lod Airport.

And two drones targeted a vital target in the Ashdod area.

The operation successfully achieved its objectives, thanks to Allah, while Israeli and American interception systems failed to detect and intercept a number of the drones.

The Yemeni Armed Forces affirm that they will escalate their military operations and will not back down from their support for Gaza, regardless of the consequences. They also affirm that Yemen, by Allah's grace, is developing its weapons to be more effective and efficient.

The Yemeni Armed Forces assure all air navigation companies that the airports inside occupied Palestine are unsafe and will be continuously targeted. The Armed Forces bear no responsibility for this, they must quickly leave occupied Palestine and refrain from returning to these airports, as they have become unsafe.

To the Zionist herds, we say: Our armed forces will prove to you that your foolish leadership is merely fooling you with its assurances. We have the means to strike at security systems and sensitive targets, and the coming days, Allah's willing, will reveal that to you.

"Those who do wrong will soon know by what [unforeseen] reversal they will be overturned." Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.

an interesting thread about how focus on special forces causes the regular infantry to decline in quality https://xcancel.com/ArmchairW/status/1964131097899393419

Reform of the US Army: The Infantry Brain Drain

The US Army's "line" infantry units are in practice fourth-rate formations that have been systematically stripped of talented personnel. How is this? Well, it's quite simple - there are multiple "tiers" (literally called that) of elite infantry or special forces units in the US Army that draw their personnel from the same pool of personnel that populates the Army's infantry line. Getting into one of these units - the Rangers, the Green Berets, the constellation of spooky black ops units "above" normal SF - is a massive prestige boost and career enhancer for soldiers. Even a Ranger scroll - let alone a green beret - opens doors for Army and post-service civilian careers that a blue cord simply does not. Ambitious and talented soldiers - predominantly infantrymen - are thus aggressively sucked into a small, concentrated pool of elite troops and out of the line units that provide the foundation of the US Army's combat power.

How much of an effect does this have on the Army's line infantry? Let's run the numbers: The US Army currently has 32 active-duty brigade combat teams, where the large majority of the Army's infantry force resides. Between them (and assuming they're at full strength with thousand-strong, going-to-Afghanistan light and Stryker infantry battalions, which is a huge stretch these days) the force has approximately 74,000 infantrymen on strength in line units. The US Army also maintains the 75th Ranger Regiment, 1st Special Forces Command, and feeds into a number of black ops units. This amounts to something on the order of:

  • 2,000 "scrolled" Ranger infantry in the Ranger Regiment
  • 4,000 Green Berets in the five active-duty Groups and elsewhere in SOCOM
  • 1,000 operators in spooky units

This is a total of 7,000 personnel - representing the best 10% of the US Army's total dismounted combat force - concentrated into elite units. The effect that removing such a large number of high-performing personnel from line units will have on the residual effectiveness of those line units is obvious. It's tantamount to the removal of a badass, aggressive, high-performing leader from every line infantry squad in the Army. Anyone with even a little familiarity with the military will know immediately what kind of effect that has. The utility that the Army gets out of this vast SOF enterprise does not compensate for the damage that's done to line units to create it. Ranger missions are duplicative of the regular light infantry. The Green Berets have a track record of 60 years of consistent failure to accomplish their core mission of training effective local irregular forces. And the spooky guys were infamous for rampaging into line unit AOs during the late war and undoing months or years of careful counterinsurgency work to get random mid-level bad guy scalps.

So what's to be done about this? Easy - prune SOCOM with a chainsaw and watch the regular infantry rise to the challenge.

Venezuela's Minister of Communication and Information, Freddy Ñáñez, claims that a video presented by the United States to report an attack on a boat off the Venezuelan coast was created by artificial intelligence. The US government said it carried out the attack on criminals.

The destruction of the boat was announced yesterday evening (September 2) in the Oval Office by US President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who posted a video on social media as “proof” of the offensive. “In the last few minutes, we have literally just destroyed a boat loaded with drugs. There were a lot of drugs on that boat. That boat left Venezuela, a lot of stuff is leaving Venezuela. So we destroyed it, and you'll see that as soon as this meeting is over,” Trump said.

According to Ñáñez, when the video images were submitted to Gemini, the AI pointed to strong evidence that it had been generated by artificial intelligence (AI). “It seems that Marco Rubio continues to lie to his president: after putting him in a dead end, he now gives him as ‘proof’ a video with AI (as proven). What does Gemini say about this video?” said the Venezuelan minister.

A report by state-owned VTV presents Gemini's full response, which was also published on social media by the minister. According to AI, the material contains several signs of digital manipulation. Among them, an explosion considered simplified and unrealistic, water and motion effects that reveal artificial textures, as well as the presence of overlapping elements, such as the text “UNCLASSIFIED” and a watermark with no identified origin.

“These elements, along with the lack of detail, are common in AI-generated content,” says Gemini, pointing out that the video could be a deepfake or synthetic content, which is increasingly used in disinformation campaigns, entertainment, and even artistic expressions. “Marco Rubio is encouraging war and trying to stain President Donald Trump's hands with blood,” said the Venezuelan minister, condemning the use of such resources to justify narratives of war.

Fake propaganda underway? Lil Marco claims the US military conducted a "lethal strike" against a drug vessel. How did they know it had drugs before striking? Also, brand awareness is key, but cartels don't really carry big logos on shipments. Imaginary ones even less so

US deploying 10 fighter jets (F-35) to Puerto Rico for drug cartel fight - Reuters

WASHINGTON, Sept 5 (Reuters) - The U.S. has ordered the deployment of 10 F-35 fighter jets to a Puerto Rico airfield to conduct operations against drug cartels, two sources briefed on the matter said, in a move likely to further inflame tensions in the region.

The sources, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the 10 fighter jets are being sent to conduct operations against designated narco-terrorist organizations operating in the southern Caribbean. The planes should arrive in the area by late next week, they said.

Deploying suspected bombers, and now F-35s to fight the cartels? Sure...

If these are the F-35B variant, they are capable of short take off and landings, and can operate from the USS Iwo Jima assault ship, which currently has AV-8B Harrier Plus aircraft.

A pair of T-62M tanks of the Russian Federation with uh... some heavy anti-drone modifications, stored somewhere in Ukraine, 2025.

Field modifications are basically just "toss whatever you can find on the tank, weld it all together and call it a day". I'm not entirely sure these tanks are meant for frontline combat, first because they're old unless we're talking about "T-62M Obr. 2022" (They have some upgrades to their FCS and thermals), which doesn't make them as useful as, say, a T-72B3, but you can use it on secondary fronts or whatever. Either way, most of the T-55s and T-62s in service with the Russian Army are used as makeshift artillery, as the Russians have a shitton of 100mm and 115mm shells in storage and the main guns of said vehicles can be used for indirect fire so, why not use them?

A number of those were used as VBIED drones too, heavily protected to sustain a number of drone attacks and also filled with explosives so that it may drive to an Ukrainian position and blow itself up. A bunch of older generation of T-72s were also used this way.

continuing on with the F-35 that's being produced too slow, it's also getting upgraded too slow! https://archive.ph/y60Ii

Pentagon cuts back F-35 upgrades to slow schedule slips: Auditors

The F-35 Joint Strike Fighter program is scaling back its ambitions for a slate of upgrades called Block 4, the Government Accountability Office said Wednesday, as the aircraft struggles with production delays, cost overruns and supply chain snarls. The downgrading of plans for F-35 upgrades, revealed in GAO’s report “F-35 Program: Actions Needed to Address Late Deliveries and Improve Future Development,” is the latest challenge for the vital — as well as troubled and expensive — program. “The F-35 remains critical to our national defense, as well as that of our partners and allies, and is expected to retain critical roles for decades to come,” the report said. “After nearly 20 years of aircraft production, however, the F-35 program continues to overpromise and underdeliver.” Block 4 is meant to boost the Lockheed Martin-made jet’s weapons capabilities, sensors and sensor fusion, and comes on the heels of another upgrade known as Technology Refresh 3, or TR-3. However, Block 4 is now at least $6 billion over budget and years behind schedule, in part due to delays with TR-3.

more

The F-35 program originally aimed to have Block 4’s 66 capabilities — which later swelled by more than a dozen — completed by 2026, but that deadline first slipped to 2029 and then further. A 2024 Defense Department review found the program was not on pace to start delivering the bulk of Block 4 upgrades until the mid-2030s, partly due to technical challenges, according to GAO. Program officials then decided to focus on Block 4 capabilities that could be delivered by 2031 at the earliest — still at least six years behind schedule — and that wouldn’t require the additional power and cooling capacity of a planned engine upgrade. Block 4 is still on track to deliver improved electronic warfare, weapons, communication and navigation capabilities, GAO said, but a more detailed list was not available to auditors. Some capabilities, including those that depend on the improved engine, will be delayed, and others struck entirely because they are no longer needed, the report said. GAO said program officials acknowledged the new plan for Block 4 doesn’t meet its original intent, but that the revised version could be realistically achieved within new cost, schedule and performance goals, and allow capabilities to be delivered at a more predictable pace.

A 2021 estimate also found Block 4 costs had grown from the original $10.6 billion to $16.5 billion; an updated estimate won’t be ready until the end of 2025. In a statement to Defense News, Lockheed Martin stood by its work on the F-35 and pledged to keep moving forward on Block 4. “The F-35 is combat proven, offers the most advanced capability and technology, and is the most affordable option to ensure America and its allies remain ahead of emerging threats,” Lockheed Martin said. “In partnership with the F-35 Joint Program Office, we will deliver 170 [to] 190 F-35s this year and continue fielding Block 4 capabilities to ensure the F-35 maintains its unmatched dominance in the skies.” The GAO report also raised other concerns about the F-35 program, including rising costs and ongoing production delays. The F-35’s acquisition costs — which include development and procurement — have grown to more than $485 billion, as of December 2023. That’s a nearly 10% increase from the December 2022 estimate of $442 billion, and more than double its original baseline cost from 2001. Those costs are also $89.5 billion more than the rebaselining that was done in 2012. The F-35’s lifetime cost, including sustainment costs, is more than $2 trillion.

The F-35’s engine will also have to work harder to produce the level of power and cooling capacity the jet’s Block 4 upgrades will require, GAO said. This will result in more wear and tear on the engine, accounting for $38 billion of the program’s lifecycle cost estimate growth.

The F-35 continues to be the Gamer™ plane - after introducing early access, they're now also going to be overclocking the planes past what their parts were originally intended for.

Lockheed is also still behind schedule on the TR-3 hardware and software that will make Block 4 possible. The company now expects to begin delivering those TR-3 elements in 2026, about three years after its original goal. Those delays were caused by problems maturing its integrated core processor and stabilizing its software so that TR-3 reliably starts up. The TR-3 delays in 2023 led to the Pentagon ordering a halt, which ultimately lasted a year, to F-35 deliveries. Lockheed ended up storing dozens of new jets, which were slated to have TR-3, at locations such as its Fort Worth, Texas, facility as it scrambled to get TR-3 working.

ah, so we're upgrading the planes before the previous upgrade was done, and that got delayed too!

Ultimately, Lockheed managed to get an interim version of the software working well enough for the Pentagon to begin accepting the jets, even though they were unable to fly in combat. This was done in part to avoid the risk of having more than 100 high-value F-35s parked together. However, the TR-3 problem has worsened Lockheed’s years-long issue with delivery delays. In 2024, all 110 F-35s the company delivered were delivered late, with an average delay of 238 days behind schedule. That is far below where the company was in 2021, when it delivered 22 of its 142 aircraft late, with an average delay of 16 days behind schedule. As of May, Lockheed was still working to deliver 20 remaining aircraft that were meant to be delivered in 2024. Parts shortages have also contributed to F-35 delays, GAO said. This February, program officials said, Lockheed had 52 in-the-works jets that had to be taken off the production line and temporarily stored because necessary parts were so late. That month, there were more than 4,000 parts shortages in the final stage of the production line, twice the historic average, according to the Defense Contract Management Agency. More than 1,600 of those parts are required for TR-3 hardware, the report said. And the flap on the front of the F-35’s wings is one of the main parts driving production delays over the last two years, GAO said.

well, I'm sure with the Trump tariffs all those shortages are only going to get better!

DCMA officials told auditors that Lockheed has plans it hopes will fix the parts shortages, such as working with suppliers to more quickly identify risks to the supply chain. However, even with those plans, GAO said, parts delays and shortages will continue to delay deliveries through the rest of 2025. GAO also noted that even when Lockheed delivers aircraft up to 60 days late, it still is able to receive partial incentive fees, which can total hundreds of millions of dollars. Auditors advised the Pentagon to rethink its use of those fees to avoid rewarding late deliveries. RTX subsidiary Pratt & Whitney also failed to deliver any of the jet’s F-35 engines on time in 2023 and 2024, the report said. And last year, GAO said, those engines were 155 days late on average. DCMA has repeatedly urged Pratt to speed up its engine deliveries, so far without success, GAO said. However, those engine delays haven’t affected aircraft production, auditors said. The F-35 Joint Program Office and Pratt & Whitney did not respond to requests for comment by the time of this story’s publication.

I love how when you're an American MIC company you can just charge the government exorbitant prices, fail to actually deliver anything on time, and just keep getting away with it!

This fucking rocks. Good band, good singers, soviet vibes on the choreography.

the USA is not capable of getting an honor guard of several hundred people to do precision marching like this, the American military is just a bunch of slobs who push buttons to kill people in sandals with airstrikes

As we're waiting for China's parade to commemorate the defeat of Japanese fascists, here's the 80th anniversary of Vietnam's National Day:

Since the start of the trial of Jair Bolsonaro and seven other defendants accused of leading the 2022/2023 coup plot on Tuesday, allies of the former president have been using an English hashtag in posts to defend the captain on social media: #BolsonaroFree.

The slogan, used by Flávio Bolsonaro, Congressman Nikolas Ferreira, Senator Rogério Marinho, and several other politicians, reached the top of the trending topics on X. “Free” is translated into Portuguese as “livre.” Logically, therefore, they are calling for the former president's freedom.

However, English grammar dictates that “free” after a noun means “free from.” The desired effect for Bolsonaro supporters would be achieved if the hashtag were #FreeBolsonaro.

Pro-Palestine demo in Estonia...

Members of the Neo-Nazi EKRE party gave their thoughts

"By having and even strengthening political and economic relations with Israel at this time, instead of taking steps against the state that is committing genocide, Estonia has become an accomplice in these crimes against humanity,"

said Maria Shevtchuk, one of the protests organisers, referring to the visits to Estonia this summer by Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar and President Isaac Herzog, the Estonian-Israeli business seminar organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the plan to open an Israeli embassy in Tallinn.

The protestors marched from Tammsaare Park through the Old Town then finally reaching the Riigikogu (Parliament) where the protestors chanted at the building. Several MPs exited the building, including two Neo-Nazi MPs of the EKRE party (Estonian People's Conservative Party), Martin Helme the leader of the party, not to be confused with his father, Mart Helme, who also lead the party prior to his ascendancy and Rain Epler, a somewhat well-known Nazi abroad and at home for his ridiculous haircut. Epler showed the protestors his middle finger before exiting his car in some attempt to argue with the protestors , then deciding he'd prefer to just drive off. Helme only gave a disappointed look, maybe being a bit smarter than his counterpart in not getting himself in a mess.

There was also an MP who drove off while, crossing herself three times in the process. Perhaps because she assumed this was some sign of the Muslim "invasion". Couldn't identify her, perhaps she was another member of the Helme dynasty, Eeva Helme.

Venezuela buzzed the USS Jason Dunham (DDG-109), an AEGIS equipped guided missile destroyer of the US Navy, in international waters with 2x F-16A/B aircraft armed with munitions earlier today.

The United States is now forward deploying bomber aircraft (unknown if B-2, B-1 or B-52) to the US Virgin Islands. Three KC-46A Pegasus mid air refueling aircraft with "HIFI" call signs were tracked flying to the US Virgin Islands a few hours ago. An unknown amount of bombers likely in tow.

What is likely to happen if Maduro ends up being as naive or makes the same stupid mistakes others have and the US succeeds with their decapitation strike?

Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body.

If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include not just the twitter.com URL but also Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance). Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society.
