What a crazy situation. This is more-or-less a rhetorical question: Is there anything Trump could do to have the GOP turn on him?

Release the Epstein files with no redactions except for his name

Nationalize a big industry

Legalize it

[-] Cysioland@lemmygrad.ml 28 points 3 months ago

Legalize it

They could probably get on board with legalizing weed while also "cracking down" on harder shit re: Venezuela

maybe change LSD to estrogen and you'd be right

Very excited for the irony poisoned posting of 2035, 60% climate disaster and 40% photos of Trump with the caption "could transition have saved her?"

Is the de minimus revocation a stealth tactic for destroying the USPS?

[-] himeneko@hexbear.net 23 points 3 months ago

im willing to bet all shipping companies are hurting under this. a lot of jp shipping proxies are refusing to send packages to the US now.

The Treatstream pipeline has been destroyed

[-] BeanisBrain@hexbear.net 11 points 3 months ago

Can't even blame this on the electoral college, lmao. Trump and his tariffs won the popular vote. The American people chose this.

[-] mudpuppy@hexbear.net 23 points 3 months ago

the american people chose change. they were given the option between someone who acknowledges the country is fucked up and has radical plans to change it, and someone who has no platform other than keeping things the same. nobody wants things to stay the same rn.

President I Didn't Vote actually won by like 7%, as they do every election.

[-] BobDole@hexbear.net 9 points 3 months ago

I Didn’t Vote lost 2020, but that was their first loss since 1908

Can't even blame this on the electoral college, lmao.

For weeks after the election Bluesky libs were so annoyed, so huffy, and so tedious.

A normal rando who doesn't follow politics 24/7 would say "Trump won the majority of the popular vote."

Libs would swarm on them. They would correct them over-and-over again: "I'll have you know that Trump did not get a majority of the popular vote. He got ~1.5% more than Kamala but less than 50%."

The number bounced around a little I think the final number was Trump got 49.8%. Oh my god! Definitely not anywhere close to 50%!

[-] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 9 points 3 months ago

I know libs obsess over their two party system, but surely they realise that 3rd parties would account for why the two major parties combined results don't add up to 100%

[-] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 5 points 3 months ago

they realise that 3rd parties

It will always be funny to me how the liberals go on and on and on about voting yet they get so mad if a non-republican doesn't vote for their candidates. It's like it would destroy the entire democratic party if they moved one millimeter to the left.

[-] BobDole@hexbear.net 5 points 3 months ago

lol, I ordered something after the de minimus ended not realizing it was shipping from Shanghai. Didn’t pay a tariff and I still got my package shrug-outta-hecks

[-] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 3 points 3 months ago

What is this wizardry?

On the other hand - maybe Trump will illegally create the de minimus cops and they'll do a non-knock raid on your house to collect "monies owed".

[-] BobDole@hexbear.net 2 points 3 months ago

I think they just don’t have the manpower to enforce it

[-] marxisthayaca@hexbear.net 5 points 3 months ago

the remaining 20% is just dark web drug traffic and spam mail.

[-] Chana@hexbear.net 2 points 3 months ago

I think I'm gonna buy some bicycle crap that I will need in the next two years or so because a lot of it is exclusively made in Japan or China and I'm afraid once warehouse stock depletes the prices are going to double.

Welcome to c/news! We aim to foster a book-club type environment for discussion and critical analysis of the news. Our policy objectives are:

We ask community members to appreciate the uncertainty inherent in critical analysis of current events, the need to constantly learn, and take part in the community with humility. None of us are the One True Leftist, not even you, the reader.

Newcomm and Newsmega Rules:

The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.

  1. Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

  2. Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.

  3. Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.

  4. Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.

  5. Archive sites: We highly encourage use of non-paywalled archive sites (i.e. archive.is, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org) so that links are widely accessible to the community and so that reactionary sources don’t derive data/ad revenue from Hexbear users. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.

  6. Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.

  7. American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.

  8. Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.

  9. AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.
