Russiagate is the reason liberals want to fight to the last Ukrainian.

Edit: And why leftist news sources were purged from YouTube and Google results.

It's really pathetic when you think about it

Hillary lost? Millions must die!

Sure, it was important in 2017. I never believed Russiagate anyway. One could argue it was important in 2022. But these days people who are litigating Russiagate are gremlin neckbeards like Michael Tracey, Jimmy Dore and Matt Taibbi. HELLLO THERE'S AN ONGOING GENOCIDE, HELLO. Who fucking cares anymore about litigating Russiagate. Go and use your platform to advocate for something more useful, like stopping ongoing genocide and stop wasting everyone's time.

Damn, didn't realize that. I guess I support thermonuclear brinkmanship now

Honestly how many bots are really russian bots? Because there are a lot of bots online spreading right wing shit but I can't put it solely to Russian bots astroturfing tbh. Lot more people hold disgusting views than people are willing to admit and companies pump out bots that reflect this

As far as I can tell, the entire Russian bot and election meddling narrative was based on a single troll farm in Russia that made facebook ads targeting chuds, which was later revealed to be not at all connected to the Kremlin—they were just generating spam revenue.

I think a grim reality is that there might not even be a political gain from some of these bots. Political engagement makes money, plenty of accounts on Twitter who run multiple "platforms" like some "AVMRICA FVRST" while having a page like "The Lefty Critic" or even a leftist page. It all makes money from advertisements and engagement.

I've quite literally seen leftist pages that will be hardcore communist and then do a sudden u-turn on Ukraine and then keep posting on like it never happened because those "edgy takes" can make money, especially when they have no interest in engaging or arguing back with anyone other than snappy comebacks and marketable quips.

There was an Australian university study that found 90% of bots talking about the Russia-Ukraine war were pro Ukraine

[-] culpritus@hexbear.net 46 points 2 months ago

Remember when dem libs where so upset at him because he didn't sway the election for Hillary? classic

[-] ElChapoDeChapo@hexbear.net 27 points 2 months ago

Remember how they forgot that a few months later and held this asshole up as the only guy who could stop Trump?

[-] William_Nilliam@hexbear.net 45 points 2 months ago

It's 2016. James Comey is in the news for performatively opposing Trump.

It's 2025. James Comey is in the news for performatively opposing Trump (I think, I don't care why he's being indicted tbh).

What really bad stuff went down when Comey was Director? I know Muller lied about WMDs and led the program that killed Filiberto Ojeda.

[-] MolotovHalfEmpty@hexbear.net 20 points 2 months ago

The Trump admin are going after him for leaking false or misleading statements to the press as an anonymous source, which is highly likely to have happened as it's something basically all FBI Directors do but usually everyone just allows it.

The bigger reason is his involvement with the Clinton private email server investigation, which is at least somewhat dodgy. Clinton almost definitely broke the law, because even Comey's final investigation report specifically said that it amounted to "gross negligence" which the Justice Department then stepped in and asked him / made him change to something like "extremely careless" because gross negligence is an actual crime and they didn't want to have to prosecute a potential president with a crime or announce charges during an election.

In more general ghoul activities that I'm aware of I know he was a pretty hardline anti-privacy, anti-encryption guy. He very publicly went after Apple for not giving the FBI and law enforcement an easy backdoor into their products and data. Even the NSA/CIA director at the time at the time came out and said the request went too far and was attempting to end privacy to make 'his job easier'. Admittedly, this is probably because they could do it anyway, but they didn't want to share with the FBI.

Whilst the CIA/NSA were certainly the main culprits (and suggested the most extreme action like kidnapping and assassination) of the Wikileaks prosecution/criminalisation, Comey's FBI were enthusiastic participants too. I believe he tried to argue for designating various Wikileaks members and even related journalists like Laura Poitras not as journalists but as "information brokers" in order to investigate/prosecute them not as journalists but as potential foreign assets.

Pretty much anything the FBI got up to between 2013-2017 was on Comey's watch, including breaking it's own rules and (already extremely liberal and invasive) guidance on spying on activist networks like Occupy Wall Street who were still going, the Keystone XL pipeline protestors, environmental campaigners, and of course people associated with BLM.

He's always been a ghoul though. He was a rare FBI director I was aware of as a Brit before he got the position, as from 2008 onwards the HSBC bank was in a constant state of scandals here (financial crisis, bailout fraud, fixing Libor rates, tax avoidance & dodgy slushfunds) and they brought Comey in to be their top lawyer during perhaps the most obviously egregious one which was when they were caught actively facilitating global drug cartels (probably at least some CIA linked) and international organised crime more generally. I remember reading about that and discovering that his previous gig had also been at Lockheed Martin.

Your description got me to realize that I didn't realize Mueller and Comey were different people for almost a decade

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body.

If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include not just the twitter.com URL but also Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source (archive.today, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org). Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed.

Mass-tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken Markov chain bot will result in a comm ban.

Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.

Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned.

Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society.
