It took less than I expected for it to take this extremely obvious turn

It’s about getting people to connect with identification. Horny folks gonna give up their anonymity.

It is not superintelligence. It's common intelligence at scale. A bot for erotic conversation - something that a lot of people have done before - is something genAI is much better equipped to do than solving a problem that the whole of humanity wasn't able to solve yet.

Does that mean AI sexbot doesn't sound ridiculous? Hell no

It is not superintelligence.

The Simpsons character Rainier Wolfcastle on stage with a microphone, on TV, with the caption "THAT'S THE JOKE"

It’s common intelligence at scale.

no, it really isn't. if you don't believe me, maybe you'll believe Yann LeCun? (often called one of the "godfathers of AI")

I'm so glad that Altman is going to expose more people to the "erotic literature" and "reddit sex discussion" lingo - he is definitely not still a pedophile BTW

common intelligence at scale

I mean not even... sure it can surprise you on some stuff you know little, sure it can regurgitate random parts from an encyclopedia and might even not be wrong about it... but it can easily be "outsmarted" by a 5yo on some of the most basic and random questions, it only has to be outside if its dataset. That's not intelligence.

Whether or not it turns a profit, it's more doubling down on the transition to a post-industrial economy that some of them have to realize is impossible.

My question is do the investors have any exit plan? Or is the US dollar system such a lock-in that they can only keep running like Wile E. Coyote and try not to look down?

Step 1. Become "too big to fail"

Step 2. Fail

Step 3. Cash printer goes brrrrr
