Honestly, I'm surprised any mainstream Western media would have a Card Carrying Communist on their show. Even if it is CPUSA and the issue is horribly cringe.

[-] SchillMenaker@hexbear.net 42 points 1 month ago

Also interesting of them to pick the youngest member of CPUSA to have on

[-] ConcreteHalloween@hexbear.net 8 points 1 month ago

And the most attractive.

It's the Daily Show. Comedy/satire.

interviewing a communist from the biggest communist party in America ??? crazy 😐

[-] miz@hexbear.net 39 points 1 month ago

biggest

counting feds or not counting feds

doesn't matter

the CPUSA hate them or not are the biggest american communist party and the only one to have outside relations with parties in countries like yes Palestine

everyone else is irrelevant ,the CPUSA also is but at least we know them

CPUSA hate them or not are the biggest american communist party

No they absolutely are not, I would guess they are at best the third largest. PSL is definitely much larger and I'm guessing FRSO is too.

and the only one to have outside relations with parties in countries like yes Palestine

Also not true. PSL has tons of links with communist parties around the world, including in Palestine.

Also not true. PSL has tons of links with communist parties around the world, including in Palestine.

no they don't

The CPUSA is costing on a lot of good work actually communists once made but its modern iteration is actively holding back the american left.

[-] WokePalpatine@hexbear.net 9 points 1 month ago

Doesn't matter as long as they're paying dues.

[-] Xiisadaddy@lemmygrad.ml 25 points 1 month ago

'biggest communist party in America' is like saying 'the coldest day on the surface of the sun'.

[-] Awoo@hexbear.net 13 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

PSL is probably the same size or bigger these days. Most of this site can't stand cpusa either, it's structured in a way that you can't fundamentally fix it because there's no mechanisms or levers to pull outside leadership. This site has a lot of PSL members too.

They did a surprisingly good job of explaining the difference between communism and dem socialism as well as the concept of red-baiting.

[-] ksynwa@lemmygrad.ml 28 points 1 month ago

Is anyone a communist? According to communists, no.

[-] comrade_pibb@hexbear.net 18 points 1 month ago

Everyone but me is a liberal, QED

[-] 10TH_OF_SEPTEMBER_CALL@hexbear.net 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

communism is when you have marketz it was all a misunderstanding really

[-] ufcwthrowaway@hexbear.net 20 points 1 month ago

Damn, he really did democratic socialism dirty saying they don't want the end of capitalism - man still thinks its the Harrington DSA

[-] godlessworm@hexbear.net 10 points 1 month ago

i honestly find it pretty uncommon to find a democratic socialist who isnt actually just a social democrat, so i can see where the “democratic socialists dont want to end capitalism” perception could come from— 98% of people in america identifying as democratic socialists say they just want to regulate capitalism and have “the nordic model”. nevermind that the nordic model’s downfall has and will be that you cant regulate capitalism to be fair since capital is power and capitalists will ALWAYS find a way to use that power to control society

[-] redchert@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 1 month ago

Denmark with its dying welfare state and Sweden with its 20+% youth unemployment rate are truly examples to strive for.

[-] godlessworm@hexbear.net 10 points 1 month ago

americans don't understand this. they don't understand that the capitalists in denmark and sweden spend every second of their days trying to find ways to chip away at the social safety net and steal that money for themselves, and since the creation of these welfare states that has been the dominant struggle in the nordic countries. of course that struggle is obfuscated by those very same capitalists and it gets turned into "immigrants are the reason your pension is less, not me who stole it from you"

[-] Scarry@hexbear.net 8 points 1 month ago

a struggle that only existed because of proximity to the USSR, and a struggle that after 30 years of 1000 cuts is nearing its predictable end

yea forced sterilization of non white were so great /s

[-] Llituro@hexbear.net 1 points 1 month ago

At least in the states, the ratio has to be something like 1 Rosa to 1000 Eberts

[-] redchert@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 1 month ago

Democratic socialism isnt a thing outside america (most other countries call them socdems) and even name itself betrays its rotten foundations - it calls into existence a „undemocratic“ socialism and implicitly signals its allegiance to „democracy“ aka capitalism. Don’t forget democracy is codeword for capitalism.

[-] Euergetes@hexbear.net 2 points 1 month ago

US 'democratic socialists' are more like feckless Euro electoral socialists, which we could also call social democrats if we wana be spicy but the US lacks the political sophistication for these tendencies to be formally separated

Seemed like a decent interview considering

[-] Chana@hexbear.net 8 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Joe Sims is exactly the kind of guy that all decent CPUSA members have been trying to kick out for decades via internal reforms. As part of leadership, he controls the money of the org via a separate apparatus and they all pay themselves through it. This leadership is also revisionist, like actually revisionist by any basic standard, and might as well be the Green Party but even less effective.

The CPUSA members against this graft keep failing, unfortunately. And they are basically not allowed to publicly criticize it due to "demcent", so they will be reticent to share things like this outside of anonymity where you can't verify they are even members. Unless you buy them beers of course.

[-] dead@hexbear.net 8 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

That's Joe Sims. He's the leader of CPUSA. In September 2024, he made a podcast episode saying the Lenin would vote for Kamala because he thinks it would be easier for labor unions to organize under Kamala than Trump. I'm not even sure why they would engage in such a humiliation ritual, as the podcast episode only garnered around 2000 views in 1 year.

More like Goodbye Revolution.

[-] Abracadaniel@hexbear.net 6 points 1 month ago
