Apparently they're scrambling in the wild house, meeting with lauren bobert in the situation room etc.

I think it just has become far more likely that trump himself had Epstein killed...

The only thing that will take him down is a blob of cholesterol being dislodged during a particularly violent fart. He is surrounded by boot lickers who will excuse him literally anything, including raping children if necessary.

[-] BrokenGlepnir@lemmy.world 16 points 2 months ago

Or shooting someone on fifth avenue

[-] pedz@lemmy.ca 92 points 2 months ago

No. Nothing matters. He said it himself.

I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, and I wouldn't lose any voters, OK?

[-] FatVegan@leminal.space 37 points 2 months ago

The only true thing he accidentally said.

[-] mycodesucks@lemmy.world 20 points 2 months ago

That's not true.

He said smart people don't like him.

[-] balance8873@lemmy.myserv.one 4 points 2 months ago

I think he also called his supporters dumb

Much more likely Republicans will legalize child sex.

The issue is that anyone with a functioning prefrontal cortex has known he's a pedophile since at least 2016, when it was released that he would regularly walk into the changing rooms at the child beauty pageants he would sponsor.

This whole controversy has really just been about desperately hoping the MAGA crowd would accept a single fact in their life if maybe it didn't come from mainstream media. The issue that I see is that the right-wing propaganda machine has completely given up on getting the Epstein files released. They're not gonna cover it, they'll call it a fake news attack by the Democrats, and that's the last thought the MAGA crowd will have on it. There was a very brief moment where they did care earlier this year, but Trump and specifically Mike Johnson have successfully delayed long enough.

the other issue is even if somehow it did break through and galvanized the MAGA base against Trump... so what? Trump has already made it abundantly clear he doesn't give a fuck about his base, the law, rules and norms, or really anything beyond consolidating his power and acting like a king. Would that base actually go so far as to vote Democrat in the midterm elections a year from now? Would they vote Democrat in 2028, assuming we even have free and fair elections by then? would they even still remember? at the end of the day, I think they hate the mythical idea of "The Left" that they've been sold too much to ever actually fight alongside us, so hoping the J6 crowd would try to actually save democracy this time is absurd.

[-] superduperenigma@lemmy.world 13 points 2 months ago

Some lessons I learned from Trump's first term that so many people apparently did not:

  • He's not gonna learn his lesson
  • Republicans are not going to swoop in and save us from what other Republicans are doing
  • His supporters are fine with what he's doing, and if they aren't they'll be fine with it after conservative media tells them to be fine with it
  • He will not face consequences for what he's doing

I would love to be proven wrong, but keeping these things in mind helps me to avoid unnecessary disappointment.

[-] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 40 points 2 months ago

He won't "fall" until his supporters stop supporting him.

To be clear, his supporters voted for him in 2024 even though he was already a convicted felon, adjudicated rapist, and insurrectionist.

They will not care if they find out he fucked children.

Here is their response:

But Biden …(insert dumbest conspiracy you’ve ever heard)

[-] skvlp@lemmy.wtf 9 points 2 months ago

But Biden fucked children in the basement of that pizza place that didn’t have a basement

Let's see...

Dodged not one but two impeachments which should've done it for him. Is an active felon, hasn't served jail-time. Allowed over 350,000 Americans to die to a pandemic that was horribly mishandled because of him.

If neither of those things have done him in, which should have for anyone else, the rotten piece of shit is going to die comfortably. He'll be able to leave office peacefully, if that's assured, without serving any repercussions for anything he's done during his first term and second term.

What a fucking pathetic world and country.

[-] nondescripthandle@lemmy.dbzer0.com 36 points 2 months ago

If you're old enough to remember the panama papers and how less than a handful of wrong doers had to face their consequences, you can basically expcet a rerun. The entire ruling class is a criminal enterprise.

The ~~person who released them~~ journalists Daphne Caruana Galizia in 2017 and Ján Kuciak in 2018 due to their investigations  ended up being assassinated

[-] ICCrawler@lemmy.world 34 points 2 months ago

No. I think it will get far less coverage than it should, will get pushed out of the news cycle early, and Trump won't be held accountable. The only way anything happens is that someone who's pissed off makes another assassination attempt and lands the shot this time.

[-] gointhefridge@lemmy.zip 21 points 2 months ago

the slow drip of leaks is proving to be an effective strategy. Normally they flood the zone after a bombshell and the scandal gets buried. This time, whomever is conspiring against him is doing a much better job at keeping things tightly wrapped and leaking it slowly to keep the conversation relevant.

[-] AfricanExpansionist@lemmy.ml 9 points 2 months ago

I think whoever is behind it is trying to get Vance into the Oval Office.

[-] muffedtrims@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago

I'm thinking this has to do with Vance's secret weekend meeting at Warren Buffet's house a few months back.

Trump might not 'fall', but Reagan's myth of America being that 'shining city on a hill' has fallen in its place. It has absolutely been exposed as complete bullshit. The same is true with regard to the likes of Musk Bezos Zuckerberg Wall Street et al, remaining at large and thriving but at the expense of a belief in capitalism.

It is hard to overcome childhood programming so it takes a while for citizens to realise. I spent a couple of months in Russia quite a while ago. I remember being told "We know our society is corrupt, you don't know yours is." The person that told me that was right.

I'm a Brit, the same thing has and is happening here in more or less the same way and starting at a similar time: with Thatcher's 80's policies that amounted to the last looting of empire, looting the remaining profitable bits of the British state itself on behalf of capital. American capital did the same thing but on a much steeper curve. We obviously display various cultural differences in response to this economic/political policy.

We even have completely credible evidence of a paedophile ring based in Westminster in the 80s that has been thoroughly brushed under the carpet. Not one mp went to Grenfell when that tower burned and children died due to avoidable issues, but they all trouped out to mourn when big ben had to be covered up for a bit due to refurbishment.

Add the abject failure of fossil-fuel-powered-[neo-liberal]-capitalism to deal with what could easily become the existential threat of climate change, and things get pretty depressing. I'm not sure when or where (as a species) we managed a fair and equitable society post-agriculture and writing. Maybe Aboriginals, or South Sea Islanders, or some of tribal Africa somewhere.

He's like teflon .... Nothing sticks.

But once there is a minor scratch, it will become completely worthless in no time at all. Now it's not IF but WHEN that scratch happens

[-] Flamekebab@piefed.social 18 points 2 months ago

I'd say he's the opposite of teflon - he's so fundamentally dirty that it's impossible to make him worse than he already is. If who he is doesn't move the needle then nothing else will make the difference.

[-] yermaw@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 months ago

Theres been more than scratches. Seems like multiple times a day theres a new thing, just one of which would have been enough to sink someone's entire career 20 years ago.

Im not sure if its due to constant access to unlimited news, a sign of the times we live in, or simply him being untouchable.

[-] aeternum@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 2 months ago

who'd have thunk that all nixon needed to do was..... ignore the impeachment and move on.

[-] nutsack@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

absolutely not. it can't be used in any type of court for anything in particular. nobody's going to go after him for anything in there.

it's just optics. and how much worse could the guy's optics possibly be? what difference does it make?

If he somehow does start getting held accountable for this, Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries will twist themselves into pretzels to somehow throw him a lifeline. And it wouldn't even make me assume Schumer or Jeffries are in the Epstein files, I think they're just so cowardly and worthless they'd help Trump without getting anything out of it.

[-] devfuuu@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Videos of him doing the deed with children would still make no difference at all.

Nobody will move a finger to touch his orange hair.

[-] Ek-Hou-Van-Braai@piefed.social 4 points 2 months ago

Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if we've gotten to that point.

They'd claim it's AI generated and move on to 'more important thigns' like the money wasted on foodstamps

No, too many wealthy politicians will go down if the files are released.

[-] BobQuasit@beehaw.org 4 points 2 months ago

I'm still skeptical that Epstein died at all! More likely they killed some guy who looked like him and let Mossad spirit the real Epstein away to Tel Aviv, where he's living under a new identity on the beach with all the children he can r*pe.

As for Trump, no. Come on. The only way ANY of the corruption ends is with a general strike and the overthrow of the state - plus, with any luck, capitalism itself.

#GeneralStrike
